Polk Micropro 1000 Hum...

Just today my Polk Micropro 1000 started emitting a noticeable hum. Not loud, but annoying on soft passages. It used to be dead quiet. I unplugged all connections and plugged the sub into various outlets throughout the house and got the same hum through the driver - definately coming through the driver. Changed power cords, same hum. Checked to make sure nothing new was running power in the house and unplugged all those items, disconnected the house cable TV feed, and checked all the usual subwoofer hum/ground loop scenarios. Guess I going to have to give Polk a call tomorrow unless you guys have any ideas?

Well you've trouble shooted it and found out it isn't RF interference. I had the same problem with my powered tower. When the sub came on, and remained on (for the 10-15minutes before auto shut off) it produced a low hum, and actually turned significantly louder if you turned up the sub volume up. I talked to Polk CS and they responded rather quickly, telling me they would check it out if I sent in my amp and give me a free estimate. It may need to be serviced/replaced, but could just be something small, like some kind of ground loop problem/etc, something coming lose inside the amp.Truck setup

"Sorry to hear about your speaker, if one speaker is buzzing I'd recommend sending the back panel (where the electronics are) of the unit to our factory service center. Unplug the unit from the wall, unscrew the larger screws around the back panel, then the back panel will remove. You'll see a series of quick disconnect wires, they are all removable by hand. Pack the panel up and send it to:

Thanks, mine should still be under warranty as it is only a couple months old.

Yea I was going to mention that. Hope everything works out with your sub, btw how are you liking it and what made you go with Polk as opposed to the highly acclaimed SVS or such? I'm still looking into SVS but the new Polk line sound very tight and accurate.Truck setup

Actually, my HT sub is an SVS pb12 plus/2, I bought the Polk sub for my 2 channel system. The Polk has worked well in my system because it is small and blends well with my 2 channel system. I am guessing the larger Polks would also work well for HT.
