Using 2 CS400's in 7.1 setup

Just a newbie here, I think I've seen on here where someone wanted to run 2 CS400's up front for their center channel. Has anyone tried running a pair of these as mains, surrounds or back speakers?

Huh?! Why? What would be the advantage, compared to two RT55 or RT800 etc. instead?

+1. Not sure what the advantage would be. Also, welcome to the forum."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I tried this a few years ago and swapped a rt55i out for my cs400i. The results were quite horrible really! I dont know really how to describe it but put it down to the dispersion of sound the 400i puts out. It was great trying it but it just sounded wrong...In terms of audio, i truly feel sorry for the visually impaired. How can they know what they like if they cant read google?

my guess would be that you would lose a lot of channel separation, but gain coverage area. So if you had a really big room it might have more advantages than disadvantages. But for most situations I would be a single center channel would work better.

Thanks for the info, I had a feeling someone has tried using 2 CS400's before as mains or surrounds. I have a Yamaha RX-V663 7.2 AVR and was thinking if I could run a single CS400 as a back speaker in a 6.1 setup? I'll still be using another CS400 up front for a center speaker. Mains up front are the SDA-SRS 2s.

If you're powering your center off your receiver maybe you should grab an amp for the center channel. More speakers might not work but more power would.

Thanks for the welcom hearingimpared, lol. This is a great forum! I'm looking into getting a 2 or 3 channel power amp to feed the big fronts since my AVR has the outputs to do that. I've read here how they come alive when you feed them over 200 wattsRMS per channel. I've got some big pro audio amps(crest, carvin) that put about 400wattsRMS per channel at 8 ohms. I've read mixed results when using the pro audio amps dealing with 60 hz. hum, ground loops, fan noise, etc.

1) Using CS400 as mains.
2) Using two CS400 centers, instead of one.
For the first point, you have answers already. For the second point, if you want a rear center for 6.1, I'm not very familiar with 6.1 so I'm not sure what type of speaker is considered preferable for the center "surround back" position. My initial reaction is to question whether a CS400 rear center would be better than a third standard speaker, identical to the two other surround speakers, but it seems like it should at least work, if you had some reason for wanting it that way.
You may have to do some more research on this before deciding, or wait for someone with more knowledge of this less common surround format.Alea jacta est!
