I just picked up a luxman TP-117 preamp and was wondering if anyone has experience with this unit. Also does anyone know where I can find a owners manual for it. I believe it was a higher end unit in it's day. Thanks.

What are the differences between the TP-114 and 117?

Hi Ron, The TP-117 looks to be a different animal. The TP-117 has the T-117 receiver built in it. It was ranked as one of the best tuners around in it's day. It is also actually two preamps. You can control two systems with one preamp. It comes with two remotes. I will try to post a picture. You won't believe all the hook ups this thing has. Both preamps sound great. You got me into these Luxmans and now I have three M-117 amps, two R-117 receivers, one R-115 receiver and the TP-114 and TP-117 preamp. Love these Luxmans. They sound awesome with SDA's.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

If you find one of those 7.1 systems that sound as good as the Luxman let me know. I just picked up a full 7.1 HT set of LSI speakers from another member. Here's a picture of the TP-117. It is on the top. The front has a flip down piece to access most of the knobs. You can see on the rear in picture 2 that there are many inputs for a two system setup.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

How much did you pay for your luxman tp-117? I have a chance to buy two of them both with remotes for $325 was wondering if this was a good deal? Thank you so much for your time.

sounds like a good deal. they are pretty versatile multi zone preamps. 2 of them would be sweet.
I happen to be coinsidering selling mine, along with all of my other stuff. we are moving to a smaller house. Let me know if you want or need the wall keypad for the TP-117, or any of the in-wall remote eyes. I also have many remotes.
Sadly parting with:
Luxman TP-117 multi zone preamp (w/ box and manuals)
Luxman D-105u tube hybrid CD player (remote compatable with TP-117)(w/ box and manuals)
Luxman K-331w dual cassette deck (remote compatable with TP-117)(w/ box and manuals)
Luxman M-117 200wx2 channel amp(w/ box and manuals)
Luxman M-111 25x4 channel amp (good for small zones)(w/ box and manuals)
(2)Denon POA-6600 monoblock Amps
(6)Luxman RTP-117 remotes for TP-117(w/ box and manuals)
(8)Luxman RC-501 remote eyes for TP-117(w/ box and manuals)
(2)Luxman RC-503 remote eyes for TP-117(w/ box and manuals)
Luxman in-wall keypad for TP-117
(2) Alpine 6012EX subwoofers, with ported sub boxes made to specs for home theater. DENON POA-6600s powered these.
As stated, i am just now starting to talk myself into selling my babies. Let me know if you have any interest. -
Hi, pinkbohman. I know it has been months, but I'm hoping you haven't offloaded all of your Luxman gear. Do you have any of the Tp117 remotes left? Thanks.

I just purchased a TP 117 and a M 113. I can only get a whisper from the preamp. What am I doing wrong? Which connection goes from the power amp to the preamp? I'm not sure HELP

Forgive me. The units the 117 and the 113 came with an RC -503 and a RC-501. But no Remotes. Does Anyone have one or more to sell. Please contact me ASAP. I Can't wait to hear them.

Just found this thread. I have a tp117 with a m177 amp. Bought them together new back in the 1989 or 90. I've been using them in a single room only controlled by a blast type radio to ir repeater, i want to now use it as a 2 zone system. My question is does any one have a rc501 they want to sell or is there away to mimic that repeater? It seems if you know the specs of the 3 wires you could use an ir receiver with the matching output in front a blast repeater and get system 2 to work. Does anyone know how to do this or what the specs are for the rc501? Thanks in advance.

If I could ask, how much did you pay for the M-113?

The amp connects to the preout terminals of system 1. Check the gain settings on the amp if you use the variable inputs. I tend to use the fixed inputs.
If i can remember correctly I paid $1200 each (back in 1989) for the M117 and the TP117.
Would love to find a RC501 to take advantage of system 2 on the TP117. I want to run the whole house on 4 amps from the 2 built in systems.

1989... I was just born!
1200 bucks isnt bad, I have a stack of M-113s and a few pre-amps at my office from old installs we did 25 years ago and only now just replaced with Sonos.
Any reason a Xantech product wouldn't work as the RC501? (RC501 is just an IR repeater, correct? Or is it a volume knob with some funky cable?)B&W CM9Classé Sigma -
I was senior in college.
Your close to right, the RC501 is an IR receiver but I do not have the specs to know what to plug into the preamp. I believe it is a 3 wire system but I don't have the voltage. I would hate to fry a great sounding piece after all these years. I was planning on using a blast type radio to IR repeater to drive it. That method has worked well with system 1 on the TP117 which uses the front IR receiver. Do you have the specs on the RC501?

I dont, but these guy will have it in a PDF they could email you with: http://www.luxman.com/contact.php
OR

I think I have a TP117 laying around at my office, I will check it out. I think any old Xantech system would work. I would use an RCA connector by cutting it and using the main connecter (+) and connecting it to the "S" on the Xantech CB-12 and the drain (-)from the RCA to the "G" on the CB-12. Use a 12v Xantech power power supply (this connects directly to a CB-12) to power the IR receiver and bypass any voltage going to the pre-amp.
I will let you know what I figure out tomorrow night. Try to email the guys at Luxman for the spec sheet.

Wow thanks. I will see if I can make contact. T
I can't figure out how the system 2 port works. Is it a early form of a optical port? The thread looks to be a extra fine 3/8-32 thread same as coax connector
Or is it a threaded rca connector I can't get standard rca to fit. Definitely does not look coax.?? I gotta get the specs. -
I know this thread started years ago and somehow got picked up. What I want to know is, did Luxman go of the wayof original Fisher products, a great U.S. company that was sold to the Japanese and became such a failure w/ the few very high end models they present. I'd like to know if I'm right or way off base here.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Here is what I know from http://www.onahighernote.com/luxman/
Lux Corporation was founded in Japan on June 1925, by T. Hayakawa & his brother K. Yoshikawa. It began as the radio equipment department of Kinsuido Picture Frame Store in Osaka, an importer of picture frames. Lux was the among the first manufacturers in Japan of electronic components, and already famous at that time for their output transformers & switches.
They still make and sell high end audio in Japan

So i have a tp114.
My instructions above should work. I could draw a diagram of you want. You would need RCA to F adaptors but theyre pretty cheap.B&W CM9Classé Sigma -
So the system 2 port does take a Coax type connector? I get your description perfectly. If that works it a simple cheap solution. Thanks a bunch.
Mike -
I tried the suggestion. Either the port is not coax or the IR receiver I bought just does not work(it was a cheap one from amazon). The CB-12 is connected correctly. My next move is to remove the cover of the preamp and see what that system 2 connector is on the inside.
