I am SOOO close to closing a deal on the elusive 1.2TLs:cool: I have set that could come to me for less than 300.00 shipped. They appear to be in fantastic shape in the pictures I have of them. The sticker is the seller will not come down even a little from the asking price of 1500.00. this means I would be spending 1800 for them by the time I got them in the house, and that seems to be very much top dollar for them. what do I do here guys:eek:...

Stop whining on the forum about it and either pony up the cash and buy the damn things or wait for another set closer by to become available. They are 1400+ miles away. That's a little far to go for speakers. And this is from a guy that has driven to 20 minutes south of Canada and to the other side of Norfolk, Virginia from the Philadelphia area just to get speakers. That's 12+ hours of driving round trip in a single day for each trip. And all I picked up were SDA 2B's and Carver Amazings. Meeting the people I bought them from was totally worth the trip though.

The guy's price is the guy's price. If he's firm, there is nothing we can do to change his mind. It's his prerogative. He apparently couldn't give a rat's rear about your situation. His asking price honestly isn't that bad either. If it was drastically out of line, you have an argument. However, the only place I've seen them go for substantially less and in good condition is here when one member sells to another one.

I gotta admit though, the pony express plea took some stones.

Thanks for the ummm advice/asschewing the Jstas... I will take it FWIW and go from there. I quite honestly don't understand the reason for the hostility however, unless the voices told you too. I am more than willing to help any Polkie and will drive within 4hrs one way to go look at/pick up or help accomodate delivery if I am ever asked to do so, so the pony express "plea" as you called it was actually not doing anything more than I have seen other ask/do in the past for a fellow Polkie. As far as the speaker go... I was only looking for input as to whether 1800 bucks is to much to pay for them, not whether his price is to high.

Theres a guy selling a pair on Kijiji in Ontario Canada and he is asking 1,700 Canadian Dollars which is 1,500 usd. Seems to me you could drive to get those. Here is a link

He is located in Hamilton Ontario (just outside Toronto)

You might even get them for less. they have been there a while.

    Good Luck

John, that's just John being John. If you want the speakers and you have the cash, go for it. I would recommend the drive though. Shipping speakers that big would have me on pins and needles. Plus, I would want to hear them first...........that's just me though.

$1500 isn't a bad price at all. I paid that amount and drove 18 hours round trip to get mine. If you can get a guarantee from the freight company I would go for it. If not go for the ones in Canada.

PS: I picked mine up in an SUV.

Your welcome. I considered getting them myself just to hear them but I don't have the room for them.

I hope it works out for you and they are good.

Before you go jumping gung-ho in to it, better find out if he will take U.S. Dollars as payment otherwise you gotta change your money to Canadian money at the border. Oh and better find out what the declared value of the speakers should be because you're gonna have border taxes coming back in to the country too. With the van rental, the raping you are gonna take on the exchange rate and the taxes and tariffs, you might end up dropping 1800 anyway, possibly 2 large on them in the long run.

If it's a local who is selling a good pair for $1500, I would be jumping all over. I found a set for 1800 long time ago but some drivers did not work so I gave up.

But John, why are you keep asking folks here what to do with your money? It's your Money and shouldn't you decide whether to spend it or not for the gear you wanted? Just asking!

$1500 is a very reasonable price. Put up or shut-up. How many threads are you going to lament in before you just buy some?

The search feature is your friend. There is countless threads discussing and or determining value for all the larger SDA's. I have seen people get them for as little as $500.00 and as much as $3500.00 It all depends how much you want them as to what there value is to you. If your patient you most likely can get a pair for $1000.00 or less, if your in a hurry which it seems to me that you are then you will have to pay more.

My personal belief is even for $2500.00 you would be hard pressed to find a better sounding speaker. I paid $600.00 for mine and was tempted to offer the fellow $500.00 but was afraid that he would order me out of the house or shoot me and then I wouldndt have them at all :p

Didnt you say you previously owned a pair anyways? I would know what they were worth if I used to own a pair.

I pulled the trigger on the ones in Phoenix. The speakers currently belong to a man that is in a position for which he cannot have speakers anymore. He must give final approval to selling them. Once that happens tommorow, they will be packed up using heavy duty plastic, two layers of 1" foam insulation sheeting on the sides three layers on topand bottom. They will then be encased in three layers of heavy duty cardboard. The sub radiators will be pulled and shipped separately so as to protect the drivers. I expect that I will be listening to them in my home within 10 days!:)
