I'm going to sell my 1.2TL's if I ever find a pair of 2.3TL's...is this a crazy/dumb/smart/stupid,etc....idea? Thoughts please.

I would think that it would depend on room size, components and what you are trying to accomplish,me,, I have a smaller room,,tubed amplification,50 watts+/-,,so my 1C's are perfect for my application. Good luck.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

George, my room size is good for the 1.2's, however, I like the idea of the tweeters being more at ear level on the 2.3's..or maybe I should just raise the couch :)

No it actually sinks into the couch but raises my ear level to the second from the bottom tweeter.

I don't think it a good idea. You have the cream of SDA crop and you want to go down??????

Cream of the crop is a matter of opinion. Some do prefer the smaller SDA's.

That's right. I've never had the pleasure of hearing a pair of 2.3's, but there seems to be a good many of those who prefer them to the biggest ones.

I like the fact that most of the music come from one of the tweeters. Just as an experiment play a test tone around 3.5k and move around the room. It will very a lot. All speakers will do this a bit, but the 2.3TL's have one of the better tweeter setups.

I had both models in the same room for awhile and different music sounded best on different models. I tended to like the 1.2's better overall for covering a larger group of genres. The 2.3's were heavier on bass and better in attack on some recordings.

Non TL's, both models had tweeter upgrade. At that time I had just got my 200w manley monoblocks and preamp which sounded suprisingly like the soundcraftsmen 380wpc amp I had lived with for quite some time. It took a while to really appreciate the new sounds from the manleys, pretty much when I later switched back to the SC for comparison. Source was a theta cd transport and audio note dac.

They both had a great soundstage and live sound on great recordings. The 1.2's allowed a lot more enjoyment of poorer recordings while retaining the glory when playing great recordings. The 2.3's allowed a slightly more powerful performance of modern rock, mostly because of more perceived bass. The SDA sound was a little more pronounced on the 1.2's but this is very room dependent. Either speaker is awesome.

2.3TL and SDA 1Cs seem like better speakers than the 1.2TLs because of the lower tweeters.

The only difference that I notice between the 2.3TL and 1.2TL tweeter placement is that the stage on which the performers are standing/sitting is higher up with the 1.2TLs. It is as if you are at a concert and are looking up at the stage. I wouldn't say it is better or worse than than the 2.3TLs or 1Cs.

For what it's worth, you could sell the 1.2TL's and buy a pair of 2.3TL's and have several hundred dollars to put towards something else. All while not losing much if anything in sound quality. Like Max says above, different music sounds better on different SDA's. They are also very room dependent. I think the 2.3TL's are the best all around of the SDA's for where I have mine set up. I would suggest buying the 2.3TL's before you sell your 1.2TL's though, that way you can decide which work best for you.

I have 2.3TL and SRS 2. The imaging is very room dependent. In a smaller room, the SRS 2 sounds better than the 2.3TL. I think you will have similar differences in the 1.2 and 2.3. The 2.3TL is as big as I will ever need. I can throw two TFM-55s at them and they laugh at me. They are not leaving.

I owned the non TL 2.3's before the 1.2TL's. The 1.2 seem to better fill up the room and have a stronger SDA effect in my basement. The 1.2's also have better base in my room. My basement is 30X24. I woudn't trade my 1.2's for 2.3's.

Has anyone tried tilting SDA's slightly forward? I haven't tried on my 1.2's, but works wonders on my Martin Logans.

Success! :D I increased the height of the rear spikes so that now the soundstage is where I feel it should be. The speakers are not in danger of falling over as they are not pitched that far forward. I used the bass braces to anchor them to the rear wall.
