Cd Player cuts off randomly

My old cd player started malfunctioning a while back. It would come on for a while then cut off, and sometimes it wouldn't come on at all for weeks at a time, and then it would come on again play for a while ( a day or so) and then cut off and come on and so forth. I thought it was a bad cd player so i got a new one.
Ok, when I first hooked the new Cd player up it was good it played everytime i turned it on for like two days, and then it went back to acting like the old one, it would cut off in the middle of playing and then it would come back on. Then it wouldnt come on for days at a time and then it would come back on randomly. I notice when my antenna brushes up against something that it affects if it comes on or not. And recently it hasnt came on in months, for no more than 10minutes without cutting back off. Could someone tell me what sounds like may be the problem. I would deeply appreciate.

From your description I'd say the problem is more likely in your pre amp or receiver. Try connecting the CD player to a different input, but not the tape in.

Agreed. Just to confirm, does your old or new CDP have a headphone out? You will need a pair of headphones to continue where I am going with this though.....

Oh, welcome to the forum BTW.

Yep, sounds like your reciever/preamp or could be a bad interconnect. The headphone is a good start.

So does that mean that you don't have a headphone jack?

Your CD player may need a good cleaning. Try using one of those cleaning disks. If that doesn't work then try a little compressed air. If that doesn't work you may need to take it apart and very very gently clean the optic with a micro-fiber cloth or a Q-tip followed by compressed air. If that doesn't work, get an new one.

I am not sure, do Car CD players usually have headphone jack? The fact is that the New CD player is acting just like the old one. That drew me to the conclusion that its not the Cd player its self , but something else, I was thinking it was the antenna. I just didn't want to spend a whole lot of money for something that may be simple. Did anyone else have any ideas.

Ok, car audio is different. Sounds like you have a short somewhere. My advice? Either take it to a professional or you may try posting this in the car audio & electronics forum here on Club Polk. There are some knowledgeable folks that may answer your question there.

I apologize but I am completely unfamiliar with car audio. Good luck in zeroing in on your problem ptreese83.

Whoops, nevermind. I see now that you already have. That section of this forum is a little slower than this one so be patient. Maybe good luck will come your way.
