Keep your prices fair, if they are too high the items simply won't move. You should determine method of payment, but paypal keeps both you and buyer from being ripped off, just have the money sent to the account you setup using paypal, and provide an email address in which to send funds. Provide pics of the items being sold, and note any defects, etc with the items. Others will chime in but this should give you an idea. GL

As far as shipping is concerned, box your items for sale and then weigh them. You can then use shipping calculators on usps, ups, fed-x, etc. to find out how much shipping will be. You may find that even if you price your gear reasonably, the cost of shipping makes it a not so good deal. Try selling locally on craigslist first. And lots of good pics!! Pics sell!!

    That was uncalled for...

He was just giving you some advice. The original post of this thread was basically a big run on sentence. That's not going to help you sell anything. It was some worthwhile advice, you might want to take it.;)

I thought both the advice and response were funny :D
Seriously though, do a Google search on your gear and you'll get a bunch of past and present for sale ads, and you can also check Ebay completed sales, and Audiogon. It used to be you could figure around $1 per pound on shipping, but with recent increases that doesn't necessarily hold true. The size of the box also comes into play. Fedex will be cheaper than UPS in most cases, and they deliver faster overall. The Post Office parcel post can be economical for smaller, lighter items. FedEx, UPS and US Post Office all have web sites and have shipping calculators if you know the destination and package dimensions and weight.

I may well be wrong here, but something smells "fishy" concerning the OP.

How about just monitor the "for sale forum," set your price and hope that it is set favorable to a CP regular?

No it doesn't. PayPal only offers protection on Ebay sales, and even then, I wouldn't count on it.

That's not true. I just filed a claim against an online electronics store that failed to ship my items. I was awarded my money back. I don't know about private sales.

I believe they have a copmpletely different merchant agreement, but normally if the seller had no money in his account, you get $0. I had it happen on Ebay. Sent me an email informing me that I had won the dispute, but the seller only had $11 in his account, so that's what I got. Purchase price was well over $200.

Anybody that thinks PayPal really offers protection just hasn't been burned...yet.

You were lucky. Was it Paypal that paid you or the e-tailer? In the Paypal user agreement it specifically states any transaction outside of Ebay a refund is subject to the funds available in that persons Paypal account. As in IF they keep a positive balance in the paypal account......not a transfer from a bank account.

Perhaps since this was a store front with a business type Paypal account it's different.......just speculating.

I read the Paypal user agreements forwards and backwards before spending close $1000 on Audiogon just so I knew what my options were had I been ripped off. Even with the poor protection I decided to go for it and it worked out fine. Any on-line transaction, especially with an individual, there is a risk involved. You have to weigh the reward against the risk.

F.Y.I., it's worth remembering that if you do your homework and fund a PayPal purchase with a credit card, that can be a second line of defense, as I explained in the first (long and somewhat Orwellian) post of this thread:

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80469

The long and short of the story was that the eBay seller refused to accept the S.N.A.D. item back, so PayPal would not refund the price (no signature available as proof of return), but the credit card, after a lot of circumventing, refunded the purchase and charged PayPal back for the refund. Proof of return seems to be the key to success in this kind of dispute, and for smaller purchases, proof of shipment alone may suffice.

I did end up getting the money back by filing a dispute with Visa. So it did work out, I was just pointing out that there really is no protection from PayPal themselves.

Be sure to read the fine print in the User Agreement for your credit card company as well.

Mine clearly states that goods purchased for more than $50 outside a 50 mile radius are NOT subject to dispute. Needless to say I don;t use that card for Paypal purchases.

I asked about that with my old card. It only matters if you actually buy it in person more than 50 miles away. If you buy it online or mail order, you made the purchase in your own home, so to speak, and you are still protected. That may vary by card as well.
