Thanks Keiko, but Aliens, seriously? That was more a campy, popcorn action movie. Putting kids and comedic one-liners in the film was not a good decision. This prequel better be rated "R" with no kids or Bill Paxton type characters. Aliens lacked any kind of suspense, or good horror like the first, the rest of the films were horrid.

But Alien, by far one of, if not, the best sci-fi horror film ever.

Jaws inexplicably roaring and exploding in The Revenge. All time comedic gold.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. I guess there a no creative people left in Hollywood to come up with a new idea for a movie....seems most movies are based on books, redo's of old classics, or sequel / prequel type flicks...with that said, I will see this.

perhaps we will learn that some incarnation of Sigourney Weaver's character created the Aliens as a slave species for deep space mining work and they rebelled... That has been my theory for some time...

Hmmm....they just rebooted "Star Trek", and they're already remaking "Footloose", "Total Recall", "The Karate Kid", etc. So, why not?

Total Recall? NOOOOOOOOOOO! One of my all time favorites. They are going to really screw it up.

Since they have run out of ideas a while ago and are now doing remakes of movies not that old, I am waiting to see them remake a movie they just released. Oh wait: Hulk 2003, 2008...

How about they remake a movie that has not been released yet...oh wait, that is called a prequil.
    Nevermind

I certainly don't have high hopes for this one. Alien was/is badass. I don't think I've ever seen Aliens, I guess I should get around to that.

Wow. Alien was good, but Aliens is one of the best action sci-flicks of all-time. It literally put Bill Paxson on the map and was breakout roles for others. Every line is memorable. Say any one line from this movie in a group of sci-fi fans and they know what movie your talking about.

    Not liking Aliens? WTF?!
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Where'd you get that I said I didn't like Aliens? Aliens is a great mindless popcorn action film but Alien was total suspense/horror, far superior to Aliens in every regard.

No way, they need Ridley Scott, not James Cameron. We don't need a mindless popcorn prequel.

But that is the problem, Hollywood tries to capture as large an age group ($$$) as they can and will make it PG-13. Suspense/horror pretty much needs to be rated R to be successful in this genre. Mindless action is what sells. I enjoy Ridley's work a lot, but I think JC can also inject a lot into the franchise.

Too cool! This is absolutely my favorite sci-fi movie series of all time. I hope they do it justice. Those AvP movies were so-so at best. Not even close to the same caliber as Alien, and the best of the series, Aliens. Too date, I don't think anything has come close to Aliens. Thanks for the heads-up Ron. You are the Spaceman Spiff. ;)

x2 Aliens was the best IMO. They're all great though. I haven't watched any of them in quite a while...I think they're due to be watched again soon.

x2 Total Recall was a great movie, and should NOT be remade. They're going to ruin it.

I don't know why Hollywood feels the need to remake all of these movies that are just fine.

This is the best though...Alien vs. Predator vs.....Batman? Yeah...that's right.

Really? You don't know why? How much money do you think Hollywood is making off of the original Total Recall in 2009? $300? If they make a new one, they'll make 300 million in 6 months. It's not rocket science. It's creatively bankrupt, but whatever, just ignore it. A remake doesn't ruin the original, the original will still be out there (and most likely remastered and re-released in anticipation of the remake, so actually a remake ENHANCES the original :) )

It ruins the original because when you say Total Recall now people think of the awesome 80s movie. When you say Total Recall after it's made, you'll think of the not-so-awesome remake.

Well...yes, I understand why they're doing it. They're in the business of making money. How about coming up with an original idea, and making money off of that instead?;)

I agree in principle, of course, it's just that those types of movies cost SO MUCH to make nowadays (in the hundreds of millions, in most cases) so the only way they get greenlit is if there can be SOME high probability of success,a nd unfortunately American audiences are mostly stupid and only go see movies that have big explosions and that they've heard of before.

Im with Ron on this one. I too loved Aliens but the first one was simply a masterpiece. Scared the hell out of me and gave me the creeps for days after. Superbly directed too. Aliens is an alltime great no doubt but Alien is in a class by itself - in the league of Godfather, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Goodfellas IMO.

Sounds like their headed in the right direction with these and that if done right, could be pretty kick-**** films.

    http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/17488/ridley-scott-talks-alien-prequels
Talking at the L.A. Times Hero Complex Film Festival, director Ridley Scott revealed that the script for the "Alien" prequel has been completed and pre-production is currently underway according to FearNet.

As previously reported, the focus will be on the origin of the 'Space Jockey', the unknown alien pilot of the crashed ship carrying the more familiar xenomorph alien eggs in the original 1979 film. Surprising news though is that this prequel may not be the only one with Scott commenting that a second prequel is planned as events will take place well before the events of "Alien".

Scott says "If you explain who he [Spacey Jockey] was and where he came from, then that will deal with the savagery of this version, which will be pretty savage. Then you may want to find out where they came from, the place where his people come from."

Scott has done a lot of underwater research for the upcoming movies which will cover different ground - "The first Alien was honestly The Old Dark House -- seven people in the old dark house with a visitor. This will go further into the world of terraforming. We're thinking about doing it. In fact, if Kennedy had been allowed to continue his space program, we'd probably be on Mars now with a population of nine-thousand people. That's how far we should have gone."

I loved Alien and Aliens 2 but Aliens 3 was terrible. It took the best parts of Aliens 2 and took a big dump on it. Special effects were boring too.
A prequel with that original alien would be pretty cool.
