A Question about tipping....

Okay so I order pizza from a local Pizza Hut. I usually get the same thing, but the last three orders I notice an increase in price. Deciding today to actually look at my bill, and I now notice a delivery charge of 2.50.

So do I continue to tip the driver? Or should I consider the 2.50 charge a tip?

I would usually tip a delivery guy about $5, or just under 15%, but if they added a $2.50 delivery charge, I'd probably lower that to $2.50 (the total would still be the same). I wonder if this new charge is in response to people tipping less, or something, because money is now "too tight to mention".

I recommend cow tipping. Much more fun.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

    Thats exactly what I did.

I was usually giving a five dollar tip. That was until I discovered the delivery charge. I know only give three bucks.

No. The f**ckers are too darn agile! Hold one by its body and tilt its body left and/or right. It always keeps it head level ... that is where its sense of balance is. The location of the inner ear - just like us. Except chicken ancestors used to actually fly. Balance is important if you fly. ;)

I betcha that people tip more easily than chickens. Hell, I've self tipped!

I work for Papa Johns part time and they also charge a delivery fee but we only see a small part of it. It's to help pay for gas.

Years ago I worked for Dominos and the did pay the delivery guys minimum wage and we would earn an additional 6% of what we sold (delivered) to cover mileage/gas. I would definitely depend on customer tips.

Bear in mind that this was way before delivery charges.

I think it all depends on who gets the "Delivery Charge" portion. I've noticed it before but never factored it into my tip decision. I'm under the assumption that money goes to the establishment and not the actual driver.

I always tip as usual. I figure the delivery charge is what I'm paying for the convenience of having it delivered to me.

I don't believe I've ever seen "oregano spice" as a topping option. That being said (and it was), I always find your posts strangely amusing, Caligula. Keep on marching to your beat.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

These gas surcharges seem very unfair. Gas was $4 a gallon, so everybody wants to add "surcharges". Gas goes back to $2, and everybody still pockets the "surcharges". Now gas is almost $3 again here in SoCal.

I wish they would be honest about it and have a policy such as:

    - If gas is $3 or more, surcharge will be "x";
    - If gas is $2.50 or less, then no surcharge.

It seems to me that it may all be a case of a preponderance of "hot air" ... and yes, I mean "it stinks". From this discussion, it would seem like the delivery guys are probably getting the short straw again, just like tipping for curbside check-in at airports: the baggage "surcharges" reportedly led to a huge reduction in tips for curbside staff. There's nothing wrong with paying a fair price for delivery or curbside convenience IMO, but why do we get the impression we are being involuntarily screwed so frequently these days?!

I would call them up and ask a whole bunch of detailed questions about who gets what, how the delivery charge is taxed, how other customers tipping rates have changed given the additional charge, if given to the deliverer for gas then what percentage of his actual gas bill is covered, is there any paper trail of how much gas they buy, how much they use on deliveries and how much is paid by the new fee, etc. etc. etc. until they hang up on you.

I just got a letter saying my utilities were going up by 13% and I kept them on the phone for over two hours asking very detailed questions. They had no clue how to answer the questions (they wer asked in a very nice way but to the point and non-provocative). RAISE MY RATE WILL YOU!

We are just too happy to pay all these little price hikes everywhere without causing a down side for the people charging them. This stuff will end up taking all our extra cash over the next few years because of the economy if we all just let it go each time.
