Sean, I figure....what the heck, do you think they would throw in a butler and maid service too, to vacuum dust and warm up the system 15 minutes before I showed up for my audition?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    HBomb.

What lake are you on there in Missouri? And repeating the question by Tour, what sounds do you have in the boat?

I have a 25 ft Crownline bowrider on Lake Norfork. Its not as fast as your boat. Maybe 55 mph at best. 454, 300hp. To answer Tours question, it has 4 Polk coax, Pioneer amfm cd, 12 pack changer, 200w sony amp, & 2 bazooka powered subs. Sounds pretty good when sitting still. The loud exhaust from the big block is all I listen to when moving. You know what I mean HBomb.

This can be an expensive hobby. As HBomb says fixing those scratches can cost. I just spent $700 this winter repairing a major mark and a batch of little ones. The big expense this year is going to be the gas. $$$.

I noticed HBomb mentioned the lake sunsets. This brings me to another costly hobby. Photography. You can dump a load of cash on still or video gear. It is all worth it when you capture one of those summer lake sunsets, deer in the woods, a para-sailer, or a cool boat full of bikini clad honeys. Hurry up summer!

At the end of this past season the FOUR WINNS was sold to a good friend because the boat was TOO loud for the baby and we just could not enjoy it. Great time as a single guy on the rivers in Pittsburgh though... but that seems like a long time ago. I figure when I get back into boating a Pontoon will suit the family. I never thought I'd here myself say such words! Priorities change as time goes buy but if I'm still in MO, Mark Twain lake is spectacular and more in line with family fun.

The boat was so damn loud that I never really put much into the sound system... I put a custome external through hull exaust when I had the heads shaved and ported. I put so much into the motor and exaust that I went cheap on the cutty and only outfitted it with 4 water tight Boat US brand speakers. I put a Clarion AM/FM CD player in it and that was the extent of the sound system. I figured it was not necessary to try to mask what was going on in the cutty with sound because the boat rocken on the docks at midnight told the whole story... ;)

You are right though about the big blocks... Loud as hell but will make even the biggest boat launch out of the water like a rocket. No nead for trim tabs when your on plain in 30 Ft or less!!! but ya know I had to have the auto balanced trim tabs on the sucker as well just to say I had them...

Boat Load of Green goes into the hobby from March to October in just fuel alone and this year will be even worse. For me it would be 75 Gallons of premium at about 3.5-4.0 bucks a gallon on the docks if I have my guess for the big blocks plus octane boost and your taking a very expensive weekend in fuel alone.

HBomb, you don't need a pontoon boat. My friend's dad has a flat decked V-hull that will run along at about 40 knots and cut a turn pretty tight at speed. The flat deck holds about 6-10 people comfortably too. His is only about 18 feet but there is a 24 foot model that is just freaking huge. The 18 foot boat came with a carbed GM/Mercury Mercruiser 4300 V6. For an extra 500 bucks it makes 30 more horses with fuel injection. The 24 footer model has a GM/Mercruiser 5700 V8 with a carb or EFI. I can't remember the name of the boat company that makes it but I will find out and let you know. It was fairly cheap, just over 12K and the 24 footer tops out at 25K I think. Granted it's a chunk of change but you can probably get a used one for 1/3rd those prices. It's a good all around boat. Offers moderate performance but family versatility.

It was the part about the bikinis that made you say that wasn't it?

    HBomb.

The pontoon boat is really the way to go. I think that will be my next boat. My Crownline is nice but sometimes is seems it is more trouble than it is worth. You gotta keep doing the wax thing, plus worry about who is going to scratch it next. Mine has been hit by jet ski, bass boat, pontoon, and runabout. You don't have to lose the go fast capability by going pontoon. Playcraft makes a 26 ft, three log that will run 60 mph with a 225 outboard. It is a nice rig.

The Crownlines are very classy boats with very nice lines... a well manufactured and SAFE Boat. Keeping a boat clean and ding free is the only way to maintain value for 20 years and the amazing thing is how well they hold value.

There are alot of rookies on the water that don't know they are disrespecting other peoples investments... if you know what I'm saying. Jet Ski's are great fun but I am a firm believer that all should be schooled and certified before they hit the water. Same holds for boats of any size and the Coast Gard folks are some of the nicest people I have ever met!!! Buddy up with those guys and you have the skinny on all the prime fishing holes plus a reduction in insurance. a Bonus, Bonus effort!

For the record! Masturbation isn't just a hobby. When done properly it's a downright affliction.

Expensive hobbies. Have a child. Not that being a parent is a hobby, but you won't have anymore money or time. I guess I shoulda done it right and went with the affliction.

On second thought, nah. It's all good.

Funny, I was just talking to a co-worker about what would bill gates do. And we concluded that he wouldn't do what you suggested. He would go to mit or some fancy university and hire 5 of the top ee people. Then he would commission them to build the best amp and preamp that could be built. once built, destroy all the plans and schematics so no one else could have what he has. If I were bill gates, that's what I would do!

Something is telling me that you guys are totally wrong about Billy boy there. He didn't get to be a multi-billionaire by blowing money on home theaters. I'm betting he has some AIWA pile of crap or even Bloze. I don't see him spending money on such "frivolous" things.

Actually, I read once that Bill has gigantic LCD art all over his house that actually changes it's picture when people walk by. I can't think of the exact cost (it was VERY expensive), but to me, that's frivolous. I'm sure that he has money dumped in **** that most of us would think is unnecessary, and probably just because he can.

I don't correlate him being a billionaire with bein a penny pincher. I match that with him monopolizing the market.:D

Judging by what people who have worked for Microsoft tell me, He is pretty cheap with the way he runs the company. I can just see him being the same way with his personal life.

Oh, those LCD screens for the art, Microsoft was involved in the development of such things. I believe that HP created the display technology and Microsoft provided the software back end of it.

First, Jstas, you're needed over in the trivia thread...

Next, I have a bud you'd like who built a nationally known Supra that smoked the competition at their club's rally in Vegas a couple years ago. Anyway he met some MS employees at the rally in their early 30's who are millionaires, so BG does spend money on talent. ('course he also works their asses off).

Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting want I wanted out of this thread. Lotsa hobbies, as or more expensive than home audio, that I can resist.

Anyway I feel so much better about my spending on audio and golf, that I may have enough good vibes left over to finally join ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) this year. Then I can blow some dough traveling the country to ride Coasters, new and old, big and small, wood and steel... :D

WOW. Antitrust anyone? Bueller? Can anyone quote a source for this rumor? Or did it just start with the movie Antitrust where a "Bill Gates like" character has "art" screens in his house.

He also has a meniacle plan to rule the world or some ****. So I doubt the character is much if anything like Mr. Gates.

EDIT: Did some research, looks like y'all are right.

His house has one of the "best and most technologicaly advanced theaters" in the world.

Heated floors, even in the driveway/garage. The floors can also sense where every person is within 6 inches. Music, lighting, and artwork can/will follow you everywhere you go, even to the bottom of the pool.

Crazy stuff. I'd say he's a bit frivelous. (sp?) It was estimated that his house cost around 54 million total.

Then you will have to come out to Clementon, NJ and goto Clementon Park and ride The Jack Rabbit. I do believe that it is the oldest standing, operational, all-wood rollercoaster on the east coast. I've ridden it more times than I haven't. I think it is on the National Historical Structures registry too. Defintly a treat to ride!

They did have to replace some beams and a section of track due to dry rot and termites but its all wood still.

Ok, most here probably won't believe this story anyway, but what the heck. I saw Bill Gates briefly one time in person.

I was out with friends in Seattle at a sports bar/video games bars. IN walks Bill Gates with some of his employees, two buses loaded of em. I guess Bill was treating some small division of Microsoft to a night of video games and spirits at this video game bar.

He played video games just like everyone else did that evening and seemed to enjoy himself. He did have body guards around him.. but it was easy for me to get about 20 feet away from him. I wasn't really in awe of the man... just in awe that i'd actually see him in a video game bar with us "regular" folks. So maybe he doesn't have a kick **** video game system, or he hates the X-box!

that's my brush with greatness!! :p
