Hi, my name is tour and I'm an.... an... Audioholic... there i feel better already...
I am not seeking a cure to my audioholism, I simply want to feel better about the money I have, do and will spend feeding my affliction. I ask your assistance in this effort.
Please give me a hobby you find as or more expensive than home audio/ theater. There will surely be some that I could enjoy, but will deny myself in lieu of audio, and thus I will feel better.
To kick things off, I offer you:
Golf
Clubs, shoes, gloves, balls, green fees, more clubs, beer, unbrella, new "hot" putter, new "hot" driver, bags - one 2 carry & one 4 cart, lessons, more beer, trips to play new courses, fancy "Club Glove" wheeled travel bag, Gortex rain suit, clothes, more new clubs, new shoes, more balls, more beer...
Add it up and it's more expensive than a good sized audio habit. I hope some of you find comfort in this.
My name is tour and I'm an Audioholic... and damn proud of it...

Just the kind of thing I'm looking for (especially since I want the new "Z" so bad I can taste it). An old, bud got his private license and had to give it up due to cost, and a co-worker that had worked his way up to twin engine rating, did the same (of course in his case a bad divorce made that decision for him)...
Thanks, and welcome to the other "AA", ATC...More later,

Yup... Stuart is right... not sure he had a last name. And the movie was Stuart Saves His Family or something akin to that (bad pun, tour, bad pun)
And it was Jack (I want to say) Handey... series of bits they ran one or two seasons, sometimes two or more a night. They were called "Quiet Moments" or something and always had an irreverent twist at the end of a very soothing story.
Come to think of it not all that dissimilar from Mr. Mikes stories back in the early years of SNLMore later,

I'm going to jump in here and re-rail this post. I can from personal experience provide testimony to having an extremely addictive personality. Yes I'm with all of you audioholics and I promise as much support as possible.
For me though another addiction has been my Boat. A Beautiful 23' Four WINNS, Deap V, Sea Worthy Cruiser with a 460 Cobra Jet pushing it through the water @ 75MPH PLUS.
From an 1800.00 dollar prop through replaceing decals if they had a minor scratch, "thousands of dollars spent!", it is amazing how fast water burns up Green.
But ya know its all worth it on that rare evening when the right mix of peaple are together laughing and jokeing the day away and the sky catches on fire just before sunset. Without saying a word everyone just goes silent and views this most amazing event nature has to offer.
So, "I believe this is where Tour may have been heading?", there are very few personel hobbies which cost us a Boat Load of Cash and also can be shared by many.
Its like the camp fire where we all juse gaze into its warmth... can't really do that with a stamp collection can ya?...

Im had several addictions (hobbies) yes, im in denial. Its sad. LOL! Well I collected sports cards. I have well over 3,000 sports cards. Of all kinds in my room. 130 MJ cards! HAHAH! I then collected transformers, from the 1980's to 2000 (toy year make), I would go to conventions to find the 1980's models. I collected about, 15 to 30 models from the 80's. I would pay from 50-100 dollars for a toy. Quite insane I may say. Now I buy one or so every now and again that are the new models since they are like, what...90 dollars cheaper. HAHA! Then I got this POKEMON addiction, god what a waste of money. You will be amazed how many effin packs of cards you will buy just to get one hologram card of a POKEMON! total insanity man. Then, sadly - I got this audio addiction (err hobby) yeah, im still in denial! LOL! It started out with a 200 dollar JVC stereo. I kept that for like 2 months. I then sold it to my dad, in which I then bought a sony receiver, and a pair of Polk Rt35i. Then the summer came, and I spent most of it with my Dad. During the summer, I purchased the RT25i's, CS245i, the M&K-MX90 from my dad, then I purchased the yammer cd player and receiver. In my addiction, I upgraded cables, vcr, dvd player, wire, then I bought a seperate amp. To add to my addiction (err Hobby) I am now about to buy a Pioneer Elite VSX-41. If my mom will order it soon, It will be in my clutches! Yes, Im an audioholic, and im in denial. Did I mention my name is Sid? haha...Damn you all, damn you all to hell.......

BAH! Audio is cheap! I have a 8K motor sitting in my garage right now waiting to get stuffed into a mini-truck. But I can't do it until I get about 5K worth of suspension work done. On top of that, it's gonna need body work and I'm gutting the interior too. Audio equipment is cheap.
The automotive enthusiast/gearhead hobby puts audio equipment to shame.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Actuallly, your rather wrong. If your a millionaire - 1,000,000 is nothing on audio. That could be just one of your rigs. For god sakes man. The most expensive car is what? 140,000?Damn you all, damn you all to hell.......

What?
Dude, is that your breath or are you just talking out of your ****?
Go check some of the auction runners like Kruse International and Barett-Jackson. Cars routinly go for several million.
Obviously you have never owned a car or seen a race car either. I used to run an 11 second Mustang in local bracket points series. I have a friend who was just certified for 7 second runs in the 1/4 mile. A friend and I are trying to find a sponsor for rally club racing.
The Mustang cost me about 7500 to put together and roughly 3-4 grand a year to maintain it at that competative level. And that doesn't include race fees, inspections and certifications.
The guy with the 7 second rail paid 25K for the car, another 10K for the engine and it costs him roughly 15K a year to enter races in his class, buy the alcohol fuel for his car, purchase the parts he needs to maintain the car at it current competition level and replace his safety equipment at the mandated intervals.
The rally racing, we are looking at an initial investment of 30K for the car and that upgradeds needed just to enter races. If we want to be competative, it's going to be another 8K worth of parts and work to get there. On top of that, you need a license to drive, that means school. That is 6K right there. On top of that, there are certs, entry fees and inspections also. Not to mention maintenance and repair which I haven't even looked into yet.
But, I gotta buy a house first. That gets super expensive too so my racing addition is put on hold. Not to mention girls are an extremely expensive hobby and if you marry one, they only get more expensive.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Im taking about a regular car. And if you think you are smart, of course I havnt owned a car. El, I dont even have a permit! and before you go off on your mayhem, let me explain I thought you were talking about REGULAR SPORTS cars, not something you soup up to race with. I'm talking about my automotive hobbies. I don't care about your regular cars. And a 140,000 dollar car is far from regular.
Anyway. I am a hardcore hot rodder. I actually disassemble and rebuild cars in my spare time, when I have cash to do it. On top of that, I am a fairly well accomplished amateur race driver and I have been asked to drive for other car owners. Hell, my daily driver outperforms 90% of the cars on the road. I'm not saying I am smart. I just have a massive amount of experience under my belt concerning cars.
As far as your claim of 1 million dollars worth of audio equipment, where is your proof? I have actually done high dollar installs. I have never seen a single system come close to 1 million dollars in cost even with installation. Most top out at just over 500 grand. That covers all systems in the house or structure. To see something of a level of 1 million, you have to look at a commercial theater of some sort and most people will not be building a movie theater in thier yard. Sure an extremely rich guy can do it but I'm pretty sure they would be quit hesistant about blowing 1 million on an oversized TV room.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

I'm not goiing to argue. I only stated that automotive hobbies are much more expensive than home theater.
Now quit giving the youngin' fuel to both change the subject and try to argue with everyone about extreme exceptions to the rule that most likely do not apply to anyone here except maybe Matthew Polk himself.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

This is just a estimated rounded price. Say you have a rich man (say bill gates) He has his own *theatre*. He puts an 8.1 system with 2 subs in this theatre. This system consist of 4 top of the floor stander Wilson Audio. It then consist of Wilson Audio Bookshelves. Two Wilson Audio Centers. All Krell Tube Amps. Krell Preamp. High dollar cd player. Then you gotta count the man's tv. DVD Player, Wire, Cables. If you can't tell me right here and now that wouldn't head into the 1 million mark then I guess Im just stupid. Anywayz, Im bored and I needed something to talk about. Sorry. Haha, Although you are probally right, it will be within the 500 thousand range. Ohh well, worth the argue and my wastable time. Sorry if I wasted your time though.

Hell, every hobby I have is expensive. I have a 71 Chevelle that I've been working on for about 4 yrs. now. Parts aren't cheap. And I like to get the "go fast" parts too, so that makes it more expensive. Mainly the body and paint is all that is left to do, but I will be looking at no less than 3 grand for a quality job. Since I have done all the work myself (aside from the tranny work), the specialty tools that are needed are expensive too. I also have the addiction to the guitar. Amplifiers (3 of em), pedal boxes and floorboards, quality cords/ cables/connects, endless supply of strings, guitar cases/stands/tuners/straps......etc. A Jackson Randy Rhoades, an Epiphone Les Paul and an Ovation acoustic all add up! Thank God that picks are only 35 cents a piece.:rolleyes:HT Setup:

If they weren't expensive, then hobbies wouldn't be as fun!
I will admit to a serious jones for audio gear. However, for me, I get more juiced over finding good gear on the cheap than buying new. Lot's of classic gear out there. Hell, I've got less than a grand in my whole 2ch rig, I'm sort of proud of that.
Golf is my other hobby, while I've got a full set of clubs that I love and will probably play with for the forseeable future, it still can be expensive.
I figure between the lovely Wendi (who is my main interest in life) audio and golf that doesn't leave much time for much else.
Well, there is beer, I just rehabbed a kegerator so I can keep cold draft available, homebrewing and so forth. I consider that neccessity though, not hobby.
