Are these any good? I am running my 15" Dayton Titanic MK III's of of a pair of Adcom GFA-565's, but I have the opportunity to get the 500w plate amps for $200. Anyone have any experience with them? Do they hit hard and tight?
Thanks
Ben

Ben i was asking the same question, and came across this thread.

This POLKIE is trusting them to run his custom made subs, and he says they are amazing.

200 bucks for the 500 watter? nice

200 for the 1000 watter = run, dont walk.

great amps. my 500 watter handles my diy sub with a SVS plus driver in it without trouble. power man, wads of bass power!

I have slowly been weening myself for the need to have mega power. It was cool to have 7 foot tall speakers at one time and a 6 foot tall sonosub. I was able to say I maxed out a 126db meter, and had the largest SDA's, but I want to refine things. I want to clean things up a bit. That is one of the reasons I built the subs into my towers. If I can stick those plate amps in the cabs that is two less amps to look at, and they should run a little cooler than those mono blocks. It gets hot here in HotLanta!

I've got a PE 500 watter I bought about 2 years ago. Still in the box. Thinking about a sealed 15 inch bottom fire with four 10 inch Polk PRs. I've got a double handful of PRs to play with.

I am digging them. They are SOLID.

Not to mention the crossover functions are solid.

    I say do it!

They are decent but do not put out what they are rated at. I'd go with the Bash or the O-Audio 500w amp that you can find for around $200. The reason I say O-Audio is because of the sine-wave amplifier tests at AVS. The O-Audio put out around 450 continuous watts, comparing very favorably to the 1,000 watt Dayton which delivered only 560 watts.

Then again, for a DIY subwoofer there really is no equal to a pro-amp for price/performance. A Behringer EP2500 for around $275 will give you 450w X 2 at 8 Ohms and about 650w x2 at 4 Ohms.

...but for your situation I'd check out those O-Audio amps I posted about above.

BASH is probably the best bang for the buck. I got Bash 300S in my new custom sub, and it pounds with a good 12" driver.
But honestly, I really wanted to try that Dayton 500-Watt sub - just couldn't afford it. It probably won't push all 500 Watts like Matt said, but oh well, 400+ is still good enough most of the time. And if it's not enough, there is always a 1000-Watt beast.

They sent me a bad unit. Big friggen ding on the case, and it died in less than 10 minutes. I know PE will take care of it.

The Ed A7S-450 (sealed sub) which has the LT1300 am now has the ICE amp (class D type). Sold the HSU 3.3's and I have two of the A7S-450 subs coming this Friday so it should be interesting with my gear.

Well I spoke with PE about the amp. I explained what I am running for a system. Soon they are coming out with a new upgrade with protection. For now the amps are not designed to handle constant bass heavy music. They are great for HT, but for my purposes the 565's suit me better. The main problem I am having with the 565's is the lack of an EQ to boost lower frequencies due to my sealed sub. PE has been great. I do recommend this sub for normal people, but if you want more than explosions you may be disappointed.

They also appear to use cheap electrolytic coupling caps.
