i posted this before, and got no response so i assume its because now i notice i posted in the wrong spot... so here goes again.
i have a polk center VM20... and i noticed during a couple of different movies that i got some distortion almost sound like static. so now i'm curioius was it just this couple of movies or is my speaker dieing? the movies were The Matrix on Blu-Ray the scene was Neo dodging bullets first time..as the bullets passed they sounded almost to loud and overdriven... only speaker and only time that it happened during that movie.. the other one was in The Day the Earth Stood Still... when the helicopter took off at the beginning, it sounded like there was static in the center.... i hope my baby is ok.... any ideas what it could be before i call the big dogs at polk?
also i had it happen again in a different movie, Underworld on Blu-ray, theres a part where a womans scream turns into screeching of a subway train... and there was static during that transition any ideas would be appreciated.. thx again.

i don't follow.... like channel lvl as compared to the rest? if thats what you mean.. they're all set to the same lvl... the only thing calibrated differently is the distance to the listening position.

I think I know what your talking about. Do you mean that when att certain times when the volume is very high, there seems to be some distortion in the center channel speaker...as if someone screamed really loud into a microphone and it distorts. If so I also have this problem and am looking for a solution. I have a cs2. So perhaps this is some sort of level problem rather than a speaker one since we have far different speakers

I have the exact same problem but I am using a Denon 2808 with a Monitor Audio RSLCR center. During loud scenes where high pitched screaming sounds are present, I get this scratchy distorted sound. I had the Denon checked by a service center but they did not find anything wrong. I've tried using 2 different center speakers and I still get the distortion. That leaves it to a bad movie recording, maybe? I've changed interconnects, speaker cables, cleaned contact points and still the same. I am not overdriving my speakers and I do not play at reference level. I hope someone can help us.

Sony was my very first sub...it's OK, you have to start somewhere.

As for this problem, I've noticed it as well...I'm pretty sure that it's either a level problem--distortion from overdriving the center to clipping, or more probably--a bad mix, digital errors...on the disc. I wouldn't worry about it unless you hear it on ALL discs.

I have never experienced this, although it sounds like maybe it's over driven distortion, 3 different good AVRs, some pretty good speakers. From Lancito it sounds like being over driven is not the problem. Matrix on BR I would think should have a pretty good audio mix. Do you ever hear this on any other sources other than DVD/BR? I don't have any suggestions, but hope someone can help in case I do ever hear this.

Sorry it took a while before I got to reply.

I was able to eliminate the speakers and the AVR to be the problem of the distortion. It was indeed from a poor sound mix of certain movies. I use a network media tank similar to popcorn hour. Some MKV files are poorly compressed therefore creating distortion during playback. I was also able to find out that some BR and DVD's have this problem as well.

I hope others will also know that not all BR movies have perfect audio mix.
