guys i'm puzzled reading in my onkyo manual for the option on bi wire I read on here that i had to wire my fronts to the top row of the l/r speaker terminals, but in the manual it says connect the fronts to the bottom row . The then back surrounds terminals go to the top row , is this a genral rule for bi wire or is it my rti6 that are diff , Ive read so many opinions on here saying that it wont even improve the sound ? wont the bi wire give me awesome sound?, i wana finish hooking this up tonight

I wouldn't waste my time with bi-wiring. I tried bi-wiring my RTi8's a while back, and found there to be absolutely no improvements in the sound. If anything the midrange sounded a little drier and more withdrawn. That definitely isn't an improvement.

Some people have reported slight improvements, but the majority of people have reported that it's not worth the money spent for extra speaker cable. Give it a try though, you might see some improvements.

First, make sure to remove the jumpers that go between the speakers inputs. The front left and right channels go to the top pair of inputs(tweeter) on the speakers, and connect the surround back left and right channel inputs to the bottom pair of inputs(woofer).

Make sure to set it to bi-amp in the receiver.

I don't think it really makes much difference which outputs of the AVR are connected to which inputs on the speaker. The AVR is sending the same signal out of both pairs of inputs. The speakers internal crossover is still taking care of splitting the signals.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time with it. If you already have the extra speaker cable laying around, give it a shot, but I wouldn't go out and spend extra money on more cable. That money would be better spent elsewhere. Don't expect drastic improvements in either case.

If anything, you might consider replacing the speakers stock jumpers with some higher quality speaker cable. That will probably give you more of an improvement than bi-wiring will.

I just fashoned 2 jumpers of my own today. I used 4 banana clips with a short 2 inch of wire connecting them . So should i then connect the front to the top (wrapping the wire round the post) letting my banana clips do the job the jumpers did by going into all 4 slots

hey curt do you think i will hear a diff if i use 12awg cable for my rears? also does setting my front rti6 to full range cause them damage ? I am confused about all these sound and crossover things

That would work fine. I assume you're using either spades or bare wire for the connections from the amp to the speakers?

I plan on making some aftermarket jumpers eventually, using spades for the jumper connections, and bananas for the amp-speaker runs.

You may or may not hear a difference with the 12 AWG for the rears. I'm using 16 AWG for my surround runs, and it's fine. I plan on getting some higher quality cables eventually, but I'm not in a big hurry. You'd probably hear a difference to some extents.

I've found awg to not be as crucial with surround speakers, since they have a much less demanding soundtrack to carry.

You'll be fine setting the RTi6 to full range. They won't be able to dip all the way down though. The RTi6's are only good down to about 50hz or so.

Are you running a sub? If so, I'd cross the 6's over at about 80hz. If you're not running a sub yet, you'll be fine setting them for full range.

yes i am not running a sub and i use banana from amp to bare wire connecting the speaker on the to terminals, then my jumpers, each one made using 4 naners, Why on the nanaer thread though does stevie use his first spade conection to the bottom low frequency terminals? . I dont know if its just my ears but the bi amping sounds louder at volume set to 10

Like I said, some people have reported improvements from bi-wiring. If you hear an improvement, by all means, go with it.

Personally, I didn't get any improvements from it though.
