So my neighbor and I have been wathing start wars episode 1 and was going very smothly until we get to the pod racing scene. That scene basicly was making the LSi 25 subs POP and distort a bit. He has the lsi 25's a onkyo 3 room reciver 2 direct tv recivers a blu ray player and a sony lcd 47 inch tv all pluged in to the wall via power strip. Also has in the same room and on the same braker the celing fan and the lights as well. So what can we do to get them to stop POPING at that scene is it just to little power getting to them or is it the gains need to be set a little lower. Everything else including music movies and shows sounds great but it is that scene. So what to do? On a side not the gains on them are set at there "normal setting"

I am guessing that you really need a subsonic filter.... It is just trying to reproduce bass that is to deep for the LSi25 to deal with. best suggestion would be to get a subwoofer and crossover the LSi25's at 60hz or so.....
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

Well he rely dose not want to get another sub in the room there rely is not room for it. So he will probably will just have to set the cut off and not have that rely low bass.

The speakers were even poping during the movie stealth today. The knobs on the rear of the speakers were set at 80hz what else should we try?

The knobs on the speakers are where they cut over to the powered 10" speaker.

one thing you could try (just to see if this is the issue) is set your speaker to small with a 40hz crossover in your avr.

It still is doing it on things like tokyo drift and even polar express the Frequency is set to factory and the volume is set for a little more than half. Also in setup the bass is at the lowest it is at -15 db and if you go to THX there is less bass than if it is dolby but dose not sound as good.

His receiver probably cant handle the 4 ohm load.

But would that effect the powered bass portion of the speakers?

If they were unpowered I'd point to this but I believe the LSi25s are powered subwoofer sections, right?

Well in my experience once you "pop" a speaker a few times it becomes weak or damaged and it will "pop" more often and at lower levels. The damage may already be done.

P.s. what speakers are popping? Woofers or mids?

Push all of the mid range drivers and the bass drivers in a couple of times with the rig powered down [being careful not to touch the dust caps]. Do they all bounce back with smooth precision or can you feel some sort of an obstruction?

See if any of the drivers (with cones) scratch. If you feel scratching while pushing it directly in, that can mean the voice coil is blown. The scratching is the coil scraping.

I have connect my system to my pc and whenever it start window before the "starting" music kicks in there a "Plug" sound happen to all my speakers. What is that? It happens every time when I start window.

Please educate me what is the "Poping" you guys talking about for the speakers which you all mention that will damage the speakers? What does that sound like is that what happening to me?

The "Plug" sound is just your computer initializing the sound card more than likely. Usually this is the fault of a poorly designed sound card that does not have a soft-on to prevent sending noise through on power up and power down.

I would wait until the computer is on an fully operational prior to powering on the speakers/amp to prevent this.

thanks guys, So that "plug" sound is different than the pop sound you all mention in the previous reply? So then what is a speaker pop sound like? And what is clipping too? How does that sound like?

More likely a problem with the receiver than the speakers

Well the pop and distortion is constant during the scene, and during operation.

The pop from your computer is only on startup and not during operation, right?

LSi25 aren't going to hit 14hz. The volume is too high, the woofers are bottoming out and simply being overdriven....back off the volume.

Both. If it has happened too many times already, you may have compromised the drivers. Keep it up and you may compromise the amp as well.

Your goal? Never to hear that sound again.

You're only going to get so much out of a 10" side firing woofer in a small enclosure and a 150 watt plate amp.

    No.

One is distortion, one is just a startup signal coming from your pc. Totally different.

When your questions are answered, and you are listening to your system, you will be unhappy.
