I'm using a Jolida envoy preamp which uses (2)12AX7's and (2)12AT7's.I've done some tube rolling and I'm wondering if I could remove the 12AX7's and use (4)Mullard12AT7's for a mellower sound.Would doing this damage the preamp.

Generally speaking that's not a good idea. If you want less gain use a 5751 in place of the 12AX7.

What F1 said about the 5751 tubes. You'll get a little less gain and get a better sound. You won't be driving your tubes as hard for a smoother sound. Conrad Johnson does this with some of the better amps they build. They use a 5751 instead of a 12AX7 to lower the gain and lessen the burden on the tubes. I may clock my volume knob a little higher on these amps but the music is much more enjoyable. Again, check with Jolida on the swap. Also check which 12AX7's you need to run. IIRC short plate 12AX7's are a better fit then the long plates. Or is it the other way around? Been a long time since I had mine out to play with them.
