I put a wanted ad on craigslist for sda's and last night I got a call. He claimed he had the SRS 2's. I went by there today and noticed they were 2.3tl's. I was trying very hard not to smile. He hooked them up and I noticed 4 woofers on one speaker were froze.

So I got the

*2.3tl's
*Monitor 4's with peerless tweeters
*Some kind of Polk passive sub with two mid woofers ( mw 6500) LF 14
*big **** Onkyo amp
*onkyo tuner
* some kind of Koss vintage array system.

All for $500

The 2.3tl's are in great shape 8.5/10

Also the tweeters are all black with silver domes. Does anyone know what tweeters these are? My other 2.3tls have all black one's not rdo's

Nice steal. The tweeters are probably SL3000. They vary in color. The LF14 was the sub for the Monitor 5 and 7. Fairly rare. You done good.

How do you know they are 2.3TL's? A pic of the tweets would help.........but it sounds like they are straight 2.3's if they have silver domed tweets. Those sound like sl2000 tweets. Need pics!!!

Sl3000 tweets usually turn a bronzish/goldish color.............I suppose it could be called sliver, but.....

    Nice grab either way!!!

The dim drivers and stereo drivers should be different. I don't have my compendium here at work.

Think 1C's, which use (2) different drivers.

The 2.3TL uses all MW6510's. You cannot use a 6500 in place of a 6510. The SL3000's varied in color, some were kinda black others were silver and some were a pale gold.

Yes the tweeters on the monitor 4's are black. I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet.

    Thanks

How does the newer Polk replacements blend with the older ones? I was thinking the four mids I need to buy I could use them in the two woofer side of each speaker.

I haven't used any of the new drivers, but they are suppose to measure the same. However, they look slightly different. Using the new ones in the SDA driver locations would be a good idea, IMO.

Does anyone know the proper way to power that passive sub? Do you run it thru your main speakers?

Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Right. Emphasis on the word "passive". Not powered :p You don't connect it to anything...

I think you would definitely have to connect it to something. I don't see how it would work otherwise.;)

You do realize that he's talking about an actual subwoofer, and not just the passive radiators in the 2.3TL's, right?

Actually it has a switch where you can hook if up running off your center channel or hook it up to your front left and right speakers. Doesn't seem like something I would use.

Spent a good 2 hours listening to them last night. Sounds very good for 2 channel listening but lacks bass. Very impressive for their size.

My first polks I bought in college were the Polk 4's. I didn't realize there were different types of 4's. After researching it looks like I have the 4.5's because it is ported on the bottom. The tweeters are black but there is a protective cover on the tweeter. I read the tweeter I have may be a soft dome. Is anyone familiar with this speaker. Does it have a peerless tweeter or something else. I alway liked this speaker. I used to pair it up with my NAD floor standing speakers which have a soft dome tweeter and they sounded great together. Are your Monitor 4's ported?
