A Melancholy Day--To Endings and New Beginnings an Era

So Webster defines melancholy as Sadness or Depression of the Spirits....well that sums it up pretty well for me today.

I have hinted at audio changes and really wanted to get everything done before saying anything but it has become painfully obvious that things are just going to take sometime to finish, put totally together and tweak.

Still I am going to post here in 2-channel, as I think my brothers might understand a little better my mood. Or at least let you have a poke of fun at ole RT1.

The WoodShed is no more. I removed the last few remnants last night, some tubes I had lost track of, old wire, oh God, a Toshiba 3960 stuffed in a box tucked way back on the cabinet shelf, record cleaner and so on, boxed up, hands full, the room now felt cold and looked empty, I turned out the light and closed the door.

The Shed was a very special place for me, my retreat from the very effed up world of my day job. There were many audio firsts in the room, most I shared here in posts and jokes, many visited, we drank, we laughed, God, we argued. The term itself is born from musicians who when learning their chops call the practice "woodshedding". The Shed's Rigs were systems where I learned about audio.

There were somethings that are notable for not happening in the WoodShed.

A Television Set was never once placed into the room.
Two DVD players lived and died without any video outputs ever being used.
No more than two speakers ever played at once.
An A/V receiver was never once plugged in.
No fixed line telephone or computer in the room.

It was a two channel musical place if nothing else, for some it was simply a room with four walls and a door, but to me it was pretty close to heaven on earth, hell, its where I found the Rabbit Hole.

So Long old Friend. RIP--WoodShed March 4, 2004---May 13, 2009.

We know though when one door closes to quickly open the next.....

The LOFT RIG is born....bigger...better....beautiful

Here's to New Beginnings.

I am sure I will be fine tomorrow.

It's not an ending...more like a rebirth. I'm sure many fond memories will simply be transformed into bigger & better ones. Sounds like a lot of fun ahead, enjoy the journey. Maybe someday I'll make it down to your neck of the woods for a listen.

It is what dreams were brought to reality and memories made, or something like that.
Sounds like a place just about anyone would have appreciated. I'm sure the loft will bring you lots of similar fun and memories.
    Good Luck

Well that sucks for now. I hated being without my setup for a while before moving to GA.
    Take care Bro.

At least you had a "woodshed"! I'm still living with the living room trying to make things all work out (and not having much success). Oh to have a nice dedicated 2 channel room, all by itself, dang would that be nice.

Have fun with your new project!

I am sorry to hear the loss of the woodshed! But whatever happened to it? Did you chop it up for fire wood? :D

I hope you'll enjoy the Loft Rig as much as the WoodShed!

The rig may be gone but the space remains.

The new occupant? A home gym? A walk in refrigerated meat locker? A sauna? S&M gear?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm thinking the S&M stuff would work out well when Doro comes a callin'.
Too bad about the woodshed Ted,I drooled many a times watching the gear come and go from those 4 walls.A loft rig means one wall is going to be open, might play havoc with accoustics for the new rig.Give us an idea whats on the menu for this new loft stuff.

Yeah! It won't play all your CDs and stuff. I have a 40 year old Sony CDP that sounds much better...and I'll sell it to you cheap. ;)
