amp juice are powering each of your speakers ? i am researching amp power watts and like to know what or how much watts juice you guys have . also at what ohms too. please share your info for my research... 5.1 or 7.1 LSi or RTIA Series is what im looking at but your speakers arent necessarily have to be LSi or RTIA
was thinking emotiva xpa 3 for front and upa2 or xpa 2 for rear to power lsi 15 or 25, RTIA 9 and rti a3 power by onkyo 805 avr
what do ya guys think?

It makes a difference. I'm only running M70s and I can hear it off a Denon AVR 2807....110W/7channels. I have an Adcoms-GFA 555....200 watts into 8 ohms/channel, 325 watts into 4 ohms. Makes those M70s SING! You can really hear a significant difference. I'd recommend adding the amps. Emos are used by a lot of guys here--they should be OK.

Hi CP.
My rule of thumb is for amp power is based on the speaker manufacturer's recommended range of wattage. For example, if the mfcr recommends 25w to 150w I would use between the mid point of the range (about 90w) and 30% over the max (200w in this case). The more power the better the speakers will respond (and sound).

i chose emotiva bec its cheap and will put juice on bass since i cant hear sound but wife can.. dont see why i should buy expensive amp.
and will onkyo be ok powering lsi 9 if i go for 7.1? how much of juice will lsi9 or rtia3 get from onkyo 805 while other are hooked to amps ?I am 100% BORN DEAF and No I am not kidding! Why am I here? My wife's hearing!

If you go with XPA-2 and XPA-3, you should use the 2 for the fronts and the 3 for centre and surrounds - 2 will input 500 watts into 4 ohm and is designed more for 2 channel listening as well.Regards - Gaz from the land of Oz

30 wpc to my SDA 1C's.....better than my previous 125wpc amp in every way.
Emo seems to be the flavor of the month. Some like them some hate them. Myself from what I;ve heard so far for 2 channel music.............I will steer clear of them. Probably a decent value for the $$$ buying new. You have better choices going used.
YMMV

That's a good question...do you mean you're only going to power 2 LSI-9s with the Onkyo and the other 5 channels with Emotivas? That might be OK if the LSI-9s are just surrounds? It would help to have someone with that config jump in here!

Caligula, you have been here long enough to know the answers to these questions. They come up at least once a week.
If you have LSI's give them at least 200wpc @ 8ohms If you can afford more buy more.
Get a Emo XPA 5 & be done with it. And if you decide to go with 7.1 with the LSI 9's then get a 2 channel XPA to run those.
Or get an Outlaw 7700 7 channel amp.

Sorry - yes 500 watts per channel into 4 ohm load - LSi will be fine with that - think of it like a V8 engine, power on tap when required but you never usually max it out.Regards - Gaz from the land of Oz

To a passive subwoofer - yes. It does not have an external amp - just a pair of speaker terminals (and no crossover).
I have one passive and one active sub. (both SVS 25-31 plus subwoofers - one a CS + (passive) and one a PC + (active).

I have a Yammha AVR at 100 wpc driving the HT. For the fronts, which also serves as my 2 channel system, the fronts were too muddy when working the rig in 2 channel mode. The bass was way too mushy. The preouts were then bridged into an ancient 2 channel yammy amp guaranteed at 130 wpc w/350 wpc dynamic headroom at 4 ohm (over 500 at 2 ohms). That circa 1990 beast has caps the size of large salt & pepper shakers that would probably electrocute you if you touched their terminals with the caps being in an engergized state.
What a difference! Everything is nice and tight with organ jiggling lows being generated while still having the other speakers on hand for HT mode. Buy as many watts as you care to afford.
Just make sure the amp is capable of dynamically delivering the wattage needed when demanded. That is the key. Based from your other posts in this forum, you already know not to overdrive the amp into the speakers, so no advice will be offered there. -
20wpc in triode is just enough for me."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

xpa-5 driving LSi9s, 7s, and C. Rated (as surely everyone knows since after all it's Emotiva) 350 wpc @ 4 ohms.
For a while I had just the two 9s, 450 wpc, sounded great. Sounds great now (I think ).
My advice, echoing previous advisors, is get the xpa 5 now and try running the way in back speakers off the avr, or just run 5.1. If that's not satisfactory maybe down the road get the -2 for the fronts and use the -5 for the rest. -
I don't mean to disagree but 2 surround back channels. It's not like there's a lot of information on those tracks. Power amps? I think it could work either way. That receiver should be able to power a mere two channels of fairly weak 2 channel back sound. But to each his/her own. Got to go with Hilbert above on this.

Roughly 14 watts per channel (push-pull EL84). The main rotation of speakers in the living room: Altec Valencias, DIY mass loaded tapered quarter-wave tubes loaded with Radio Shack 5-1/4" twincone fullrange drivers, and Quad ESL-57s. -

FWIW, I'd pick the speakers first, then find an amp that will drive them.
OTOH, xpa-5 should be able to drive almost anything, and is said (by Emotiva) to be neutral-sounding, so perhaps in this case order doesn't matter.
The amp weighs about 75 lbs, about 90 in the box, so schlepping it from PA to FL might be an unpleasant chore. -
FWIW, I'd pick the speakers first, then find an amp that will drive them.
That's the optimal way to buy gear. Unfortunately, reality raises its ugly head when you are just upgrading components. New speakers, amp doesn't mesh anymore, etc. -
I use a dedicated amp for my RTiA3 fronts and the avr amp for the center and surrounds.
modified Carver M-1.0t mkII:
Power
8 ohms--400 watts <0.15% THD
4 ohms--450 watts <0.15% THD

8 ohms--670 watts
4 ohms--832 watts

Be careful about falling into the wpc trap. It's all about quality power, not quantity. My 38wpc int. tube amp offers far more quality power and can drive difficult speakers better than many of the big names mentioned here.
Right now I have a well-known quality Canadian company's 40wpc int. amp in for review, next to it is a 150wpc class d amp. The 40wpc is pummeling the 150wpc with a fairly difficult set of speakers. The sound has more weight, dynamics and thrust during difficult passages.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

marcmarc,
That's not fair...most of us know that tubes put out more quality watts than cheap SS units. I think that appropriate thing to say is if you're not running a tube amp or a good class A, then a 200 Watt/channel by a reputable manufacturer, i.e., Carver, Parasound, Adcom, Rotel, Cambridge Audio, Bryston, etc. Will give you good sound. You need to listen to a range of amps to see what you like in sound...and remember that your pre-amp will ultimately affect what kind of sound you hear also.
