def tech speakers.
I was thinking about changing my speakers out and getting something new and a buddy of mine who is into the home theater scene told me to look at Def Tech speakers. I was wondering if any one here has any experience with them and if so what did you think of them. I'm considering the new Mythos STS Super Towers in case you needed to know which ones I was looking at. Thanks for any input.

great speakers epically for HT the founder of def tec used to be affiliated with Polk, unless I'm mistaken
-
Def tech owns Polk. I've owned a lower end set. It's a pretty good speaker."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson

Ok here's the question!
Mythos speakers have powered subs! If we took away that advantage how would they stack up against Polk's VM30s, and why do so few people talk about this series when it looks like Def Tech Mythos minus the subs?
I haven't heard these! I have heard the Mythos towers and they sound fine!

What speakers do you own now? Why do you wanna change them out? What are you looking for in a new pair of speakers?
The Mythos series are an amazing speaker line. For theater I'm overly Impressed. There output and sound quality are fantastic. For music I feel they also excel. I honestly think they are one of the very best double duty speakers I have come across in a long time.
I find it difficult to have a system to play music as well as theater and be happy for both. Def Tech delivers on these accounts.Dan

I like Def Tech speakers. The BP10, BP20 and BP30's are great speakers. I am not a fan of powered subs in speakers but the powered BP's do sound very nice. They make good subs also.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

Just in time-
I got my Mythos ST-Ten-GemXL delivered yesterday. I picked up BP-30 this past weekend. Currently I'm using BP-30 as Surr and GemXL as SurrBack.
My first impression is Wow!! great sound quality. Clarity, Power and the tight-punch Bass out of the ST's. I havn't owned LSi series myself, and can't compare it to them. Its not fair to compare mythos to RTi series.
I havn't calibrated the speakers yet and will be doing it during this Week-end..

In my opinion, the Mythos St's wreaks everything polk has to offer. They are a double duty speaker like no other. I don't agree with the BP30's as rears. I would have gone with Mythos 10's myself.

Dan, I completely agree with u on Tens for Surrounds. Placing Tens in my room is impossible. My room is very wide - may be 35x15 and my viewing area is 20x15. I either needed a TALL Floorstandings (Mythos 1s r also dwarf for my setup) or Gems on my side tables (I don't like to use speaker-stands for my Surrounds).
My BP-30 popped up for me on my local CL and I shud say, I got it for a very reasonable price. @ thuffman, I'm not trying to make u feel more envious ;-)

Ever consider in ceiling speakers? Def Tech makes Badass in ceiling speakers. Then you could have placed them exactly where you wanted them. I'm not a fan of floor standing rear speakers but If placed correctly and setup correctly, you can make it work well.
Still very nice system man. Congrads.

Dan, Thank you!! and you always instigate my thought process. I never thot of in-ceiling speakers. My Ceiling is about 12' high at one end where I have the couch and about 16' high near the Display. May be my Surr would be at 13' high and SurrBack at 12'. You think this is wud work? or u suggest me to stick with 5.1 ?

:DMantis my signature has my current setup. I just want to try something new. I was also thinking about the def tech bp7002 speaks as well. My only real concern with def tech speaks are the built in sub's, I don't know how well they would be with my svs or if they even go as deep as it.58" Samsung Plasma (on wall)(calibrated)

I might just purchase them and do a comparo with my LSi's and see if there is a big difference. If they do sound better then I will probably put the Lsi's in my bedroom system or just put them up for sale. Dont know yet.58" Samsung Plasma (on wall)(calibrated)

Better than LSIs....?
Well they're good but I prefer the LSIs for 'music', myself. And I've heard both speakers. The real advantage of the mythos are they have a nice sub unit--better than the one in the LSI-25....but otherwise I prefer the Vifa tweets! But I can see how people who like very FLAT and a tad brighter speaker can sing high praises for the Mythos!
