need to run a new circuit for all this?

Was brushing through the instructions on my new xpa-3 today (thanks Metal) and it advises to run a sepperate circuit for the amp. I have all my gear plugged into a monster power 2550 power center which is plugged into a single outlet on a wall. That outlet is on the same circuit as a couple of other outlets in the room. These other outlets only power a lamp and sometimes a space heater in the winter. A buddy of mine advises I run a seperate circuit to that wall(which will be less than enjoyable)as do the instructions for the amp. The power center has specific plug ins for all componants, including a high current amplifier. The instructions for the power center(monster,go figure)doesn't cover this topic at all. This is one detail I haven't done any research on, and it really never occured to me untill dealing with the GIRTH of this amp. Any advise is more than welcome. thanks

The heater takes up a lot. I would definitely run a dedicated circuit. While you are at it I would look at 2 circuits in a 2 gang box. The extra coin for the materials is all you should be paying if you find an honest electrician. Where are you located?

A dedicated outlet is of more value than a conditioner in many cases. I need to get it done here myself. I was an electricain so it is just parts for me.

well it sounds like a new outlet is probably the way it's gotta be. Is plugging my amp into the power conditioner (for now) out of the question? I won't be using the space heater or anything else on that circuit for months. Sorry for the dumb questions, I own a tree service and all my work is done outdoors, the only thing I know about electricity is to stay away from the primaries.

Yep. A good dedicated 20 amp circuit will work wonders for the toys. Keeps out most of the interferances of anything else on a general use circuit i.e. heater.
Ben.. DK had that write up on an in-wall conditioner duplex outlet. Can't remember the thread. Gotta link to for Jr. here?

Good point Ben. A road trip may be in order to help the lad if he does.

i had been planning to add a dedicated line to my system since i moved into my house almost 2 years ago..guess what..just completed it this weekend! while i was at it i added 2! Took me and the uncle a couple hours and in all honesty if i had knowledge in adding connections at the circuit box i easily could have done it myself. Hardest part really was running the Romex to the new outlet spot.

Now i have 2 dedicated circuits for my equipment:
1- just for my EMO MPS amp with a power port premier
1- just for my Power plant premier with a soloist premier. The power plant powers tv,avr, cable box,hd,ps3,squeezebox and MP 4k

To be honest it has been a very expensive few weeks with the MPS, PPP, MP 4k, and the PS audio outlets...But my system is almost complete so thats good. As for the dedicated line i gave the uncle $100 bux for his time and materials so not too bad.

Did i notice the difference? Well 1st of all my lights no longer dim when i power up so at least i know the equipment wont run it interference with household appliances. As for the sound i feel my music is now clearer and tighter, and im sure the PS audio tweaks has contributed to it. I attribute being enlightened about the importance of feeding your system nice clean power to DK. Next up some of those new PS audio perfectwave cables for the PPP and MP4k

I have a monster power conditioner as well, and i plugged the XP-3 in it. what happened here is at higher volumes the amp would start clipping. as soon as i plugged it into its own circuit the clipping stopped. Emotiva will tell you to plug it in its own circuit as well.

    Enjoy!!

The heater is the real power hog. I'd run a dedicated circuit, 20 Amps (12AWG) preferably.

Also, a device that uses a LOT more power than people think is a Laser printer. When the heater inside the fuser element kicks in, the current draw goes through the roof.

Heater should be on its own circuit, definitely.

In fact you should have at least 2-3 dedicated circuits, if you have big amps in your rig. One for each amp and the last for the TV/projector.

Best is if you have the entire HT on a subpanel :)

Thanks, all i need is more ideas to spend more money.:p
Good thing i have a good friend that is an electrician. He just put in another subpanel in my garage for my welder and airconditioner 2 weeks ago.

Right now i have my conditioner plugged in one outlet and the amp plugged into another outlet.
