Argh.

Removed all the screws from upper woofer but can't figure out how to get the thing to pop out.

    Figured it out.

I cut the cone out of the speaker. Still couldn't get it out. Then I got a claw hammer, clawed onto the speaker basket, and pulled like a **** finally ripping it from the cabinet.

That seems a little excessive as far as speaker design, no??

Using the laquer whatever finish to double as glue to glue the driver on?

Yeah, some manufactures go nuts. I opened up a VMPS Tower II one time - broke 2 knives in the process. He used double sided tape to seal them.

    Talk about excess!

You could have removed the tweeter or other woofer and pushed it out from behind.

It appears the paint isn't fully cured when the woofers are installed, sometimes making it difficult to remove them.

Tried that. Same luck getting bottom woofer out so I just put screws back in, and tweeter would not come out more than about 1/8" before I felt it resisting ...

It seriously took a lot of yank to get it out.

If the tweeter moved at all, it was the cables from the x-over holding it back. A little tugging would have given you the slack you needed to remove it.

As for the bottom woofer in LSi9's or right woofer in a LSiC, remove the binding post cup and you can push from behind.

Had to install a replacement ... thus I didn't mind ripping the cone off to get it out.
