LSi Purchase of the century!!!! (Help Needed)

You guys will not believe this. I'm trolling Craigslist last night and I find an ad for "Home Theater System - $500." As I'm reading and looking at the photos a bit more...I see an owners manual that says LSi. Here's what the outcome was...yes I am still in a daze...I bought it.

Polk Audio LSi 25's in ebony
Polk Audio LSiC
Polk Audio PSW404B
Denon AVR-3803 Receiver
2 spools of Monster XP cable
Misc Monster RCA cables

Is that the best $500 ever spent or what!?!?! I thought for sure it was a scam or a misprint.

Now, the question how do I hook up the 25's? I currently run a dedicated sub with an RCA coming out of the LFE port on my Parasound 7100 classic directly to my Klipsch Sub12. I'm not sure how to dial in the built in subs on the speakers and what are your recommendations for connections.

I cannot wait to hear the comparison between the LSi's and my RT16's and CS350LS.

Thanks!

Nice find, dude! I wonder if that could qualify as better than the guy that picked up the LSi9 for free a while ago in NYC.

I can't help you with the connections for those, but the manual, however, is available for download:

I am going to guess there is some X husband out there who is going to do bad things to that woman. Great deal on the ~M~ cables:) Speaks too;)
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

WOW! Nice score! He probably had no idea what he had & just knew that it didn't sound good running off of the Denon. You get to benefit from his inexperience!

Everything had been in storage due to the seller's father passing away...it was his stuff. The seller inherited all of it and it sat due to size limitations of their house. I am still in shock! I'll throw up some pictures soon. Now I just need to unload my RT16's, RT12's, and CS350LS...when all is said and done, I may actually make some money with this upgrade. :)

So per the manual (link above), I am running with option 2, which states that I need to run 2 Y-splitters from my Parasound 2205AT left and right RCA channels with 1 cable from my Parasound 7100 pre/pro running into each Y-splitter and the other one to the LFE Sub in on each speaker from the Y.

    That sound right?

Also, where should the frequency be set on the 25's amps? Same as my Klipsch sub?

One hell of a deal!! Congrats!

The worst worst case scenario: You'll break even after selling your RTs. Nice!

A power amp purchase is in order....

Btw, I would also ebayed the Monster XP, I used and have some, even switching to Signal Cable classic make a big difference. Those plastic tubing on the XP looks cool, but has no effect whatsoever.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I realize I'm in the minority here, but I'd feel bad paying so little for all that given the circumstances. I realize that you have to take advantage of good fortune when it comes your way.

However, in this case I'd have felt like I'm taking advantage of someone, paying $500 for all that just doesn't 'feel right' to me. Then again I'm the jackass who finds $100 on the ground outside a store and takes it inside to the manager or drives 30 minutes back to Home Depot because I forgot to pay for something.

I doubt I'm that good of a person really, mostly I just have issues with guilt and that would eat at me.

I'm not passing judgment by the way, just offering up a different point of view.

Same feelings and discussions were had with my wife...preacher/choir AsSiMiLaTeD. What I have to keep telling myself is that I am not their financial advisor and that I am giving them what they are asking for, and not to get too wrapped up in the thoughts of what I would do if I were in their position. They said that they have no interest in electronics, and are just looking to get rid of it. Free money for the sellers as they didn't purchase the equipment to begin with. I understand the feelings though...I had them. But on the same token, I feel incredibly lucky today.

This shall be the new standard by with all other deals are judged.:D:D

I understand the thoughts about taking advantage of the people, but they could have researched and found out market value for the gear. My dad passed away 5 months ago and left behind a few things that my brother and I had no idea what they were worth. We researched, got a price range, and sold the items on the low end of the range.

You may be in the minority, I don't know, but you're not the only one. I've even been paid more than I asked by a fellow Polkie recently too, which is really refreshing (and not all that surprising, given the nature of Club Polk).

I'm not passing judgement either Ethancf, in any way, and it's too late now to do anything about it. If it were me, I might have given him $100 extra (which would still have been a terrific bargain), if I had thought of it on the spur of the moment, just because ... but I think it might do more harm than good at this point (right now, the seller is probably quite content with the sale). Then again, when you pick these things up to start with, under those circumstances, you have no idea if they are really fully functional or not until you get them home. There might have been a blown tweeter or damaged crossover for all you could tell.

    Ethancf:
You may (or may not!) find the Denon 3803 lacks the backbone to drive the LSi25's adequately when you crank things up. This particular AVR doesn't seem to be rated for 4 ohm loads (you can find past polk forum posts on this exact combo). If this should prove problematic, a cheap solution might be to pick up a solid used stereo amp on eBay, something along the lines of a NAD 2400 or 2600 or their Rotel equivalents. Despite the age of such amps, I have a several of these driving my set of 4X LSi15's and LSiC (using an Onkyo TX-SR806) - and they sound clean indeed... at all volumes (reasonable and *completely* unreasonable.)
Best wishes with your incredible find!

It's the buyer's responsibility to educate themselves and price the product accordingly. This deal is amazing congratulations. Don't feel bad about it at all. There's 50 thousand websites all over the net that could provide a clue to the actual value of these things.

The real fact is that the heir found no value in the speakers at all and was looking to make space and/or make a quick buck.
