What is this all about? Why cant they just lower the price some and start selling these things. There has to be at least a 40% mark up on them.

If they can't sell them and make a profit...there is no reason to produce them. 30% - 40% is not all that much in the retail world. There is so much more costs to consider other than just what is costs to produce a single item. If it was profitable they would keep making them and keep selling them. It evidently is not. Pioneer as a company is struggling big time and they can't keep making something for the few enthusiasts that want it. They will be lucky to survive to make anything.

when Pioneer announced they were getting out of the TV business some months ago, it was only a matter of time before the Kuro's run would be over. It is a sad thing to be sure but hardly a surprise.

Sad to see the Kuro go. While I never got around to buying one, I don't feel as if I missed out of something huge. As long as there is a consumer demand for it, something better will come along.

I just received Crutchfield's mailer and on the front cover is the new Samsung LED. Looks sweet!

I bought a Pro11FD just in the nick of time (I think many outlets are begining to run out of inventory). Since I live overseas, I won't even get to enjoy it except for a few trips back each year, but I had to have one before they disappeared completely. If you can for it now's the time!

The problem is that there is an Eco-war on all plasmas. They use too much juice, and Europe is working on banning them altogether. SONY and many others pulled out of the plasma market years ago. Vizio is a large player in the market, but they are coming out with more LCD's than plasmas.

The Kuro was the premium tv in a dying product range. There are too few videophiles to carry it.

The Kuro's were the best, yeah, but it's old tech now. Panasonic has been making plasmas for 15 years now. LEDs are the future, for better or worse. I am a little bummed I never got to own one, though. I'll keep an eye on Craigslist.

lol where have you been. They announced this some time ago, and pretty much all stores that have carried them have had them on close out for almost 2 months.

You can still find a couple around online at some places, but if that doesn't go good there's always the krp-500m and krp-600m they are the 5020fd an d 6020fd (respectively) but without a internal tuner, and the krp-500m starts at 1999.99 and some forum writers even say its better than the 5020fd.

I don't know, great as the Kuros were the Panasonics were never that far behind. I've got two and I'm very happy and even if they're not the last word in ultimate performance, they've always cost much less. I calibrated mine through the service menu's color cut and drive controls and, short of a few hundredths footlamberts shallower blacks than a Kuro, they meet, match, or exceed the contrast and every other spec. Drink the Kool-Aid, Kuro mourners.
