need new sub?

Hello, I definitely need a new sub. I have had a sony sawm-40 for a very long time now. Moved into bigger house and this sub just doesn't rumble me at all. Im looking for the best sub I can find for $250-275 or less. I mainly use for home theater but occasional music. what do you all think. thanks

I would say most people will tell you the polk psw505 is your best bet. It might be a little more then you range but it seems like a good banf]g for the buck sub.

For what its worth, im running 2 psw10's in a room that is 25x15. they rumble enough for me although it did take me numerous times moving them around the room to get the best sound. Good luck.

That's a tough price range but the already mentioned psw505 and the BIC Acoustech H100 are two of the better ones for small to medium sized rooms for the money. They may be all you need, but you may be better off saving up about $400-$600 and should be able to find something that you will not feel the need to improve on for a while.
Below link looks like a good price on the H100, just not familiar with the retailer.
    H100 $249

Tough call. Assuming that room has 8' ceilings both should do an adequate job (depending on your expectations), but I would not recommend anything with less performance, and as usual a better sub would yield better results. They are pretty equal IMHO, although the 505 is shielded and the Bic is not if you still have a CRT display and plan on placing the sub near by. If not then it is not of much importance.

With a sub there is not a need to keep it the same brand as the rest of your speakers, but I guess there is a little cosmetic appeal to seeing the Polk badge on all your speakers if that is important to you. Speaking of looks I think the 505 is a little easier on the eyes, if you end up placing it in a highly visible location. IMHO these two are so close that I would go with which ever one I could find the cheapest and get the soonest. Don't forget shipping while neither is a brute, weight wise 50-55 lbs shipping adds some cost. Polk CS should also be considered although I have never seen anything on either sub that would indicate any type of a high failure rate. Or...... take some time to look for a better sub on the used market.

My ceiling has 9' ceilings. Looks aren't a huge deal to me. Any sub i get will look fine in my room. I just want a sub to work excellent for movies for the lowest price right now.

You are pushing 3000 cubic ft assuming you have some opening to other rooms, IMHO you will not get "excellent" results for movies for $275. While the 505 and BIC give good results for their price range I can not recommend them for someone with high expectations.

Here are some links to keep an eye on:
