I seen today that the iphone has a 20$ spl meter app. It's 20$ and looks pretty fancy. Here's the link http://www.faberacoustical.com/products/iphone/soundmeter/

I wonder what the chances of this working well enough to set up my system are?
I would love to try it out, but I hate to waste 20$ when I could spend 50$ and get an actual spl meter, but If I could put one on my phone that works. That would be awsome.

Sorry to say but $20 buys you a spl meter.

I'm gonna give it a shot, if it works good, why not use it.

I would question its accuracy from 15hz to 10khz. Radio shack is somewhat accurate up to 3Khz, there is calibration file available to take in account the inaccuracies. I doubt anyone will create a calibration file for it.

I have a couple RTA programs for my Pocket PC. They are fun to play with but they are limited due to the crappy mic. I always wanted to try a decent external mic . I'm glad to see these apps for the iPhone as I'll probably get one.

But this is in your phone!:D

I know but it also gives a disclamer about accuracy and I already have 8 pages of apps. :D

I just got the radio shack one, so I might bite the bullet, and get the iphone app just to try it out, and make a comparison.

For me this would be convenient. I go to loud music calls a lot and the peeps always complain that it isn't that loud. It can't be over a certain amount of decibels from 100 feet away. I guess I could just take the Rat Shack meter in to work but it would be much more convenient to just have this in my pocket already.

I'd love to see someone do a side-by-side with the Radioshack SPL meter. Especially since the RS meter already has the calibration file available.
