Anyone use the Polk DSW Micropro Subs?

I was thinking of adding a sub to augment my Tyler Signature Monitors. I want something small for music only listening (I have an SVS for HT). I see Polk has the Micropro subs. It looks like the DSW Micropro 1000 would work for me size wise. Anyone try these for 2 channel listening? Would I get better sound quality with REL or Velodyne?

I have the micropro 3000 for my 2 channel and I'm very happy with it. We heard at Polkfest last year a rig with a stereo pair and sounded fantastic.

I have not heard any Rel or Velodyne, but they are supposed to be very good too.

I haven't heard the micropro subs but they get great reviews. Supposedly a huge leap in sub quality from what I've read compared to Polk's older reputation on subs. They weren't out when I bought my subs (other wise I definetely would have checked them out)...dual Velo SPL-1200R's. Extremely happy & need not look elsewhere. Give the Polk's a try, they might just be the ticket.

I am running the 3000 with VM 30s and VM 20s and cs1. Power supplied by Pioneer 1018ahk.Very happy with package.

i got a 4k myself, thing is impressive...bass is felt and is very clean. I only have ithe gain set less than 1/2 also

The Micropro series subs are very musical . Tight punchy bass that can be heard and felt.

Thanks, nice review. I fiddled around with my SVS Plus/2 to see if I could utilize that for 2 channel, but it just seemed like to much sub for the job and I didn't want to have to adjust the gain everytime I switched between HT and 2 channel. Based on my space constraints it look like the Micropro 1000 or 2000, or I am also looking at the Velodyne Optimum 8 - pretty much the same as the Micropro size wise and cost but it has a little blue LED display which I like.

Went with the MicroPRO 1000. Just looking for a little more bass for 2 channel. My SVS plus/2 provides the brutal HT bass

I'll try to keep this short to save everyone time, but i'm not all that impressed by the Polk DSW MicroPro 3000 subwoofer. I currently own two different Infinity subwoofers (Entra Sub 2 and PS212) and two Polk MicroPro 3000s. The infinity subs are 12" and 250-400W RMS. The polks are 10" 1200W RMS.

I tested these subwoofers against each other (one speaker at a time) for quite a bit of time this weekend... enough time that two neighbors texted me wondering why they weren't invited to the party!

The polk 3000 is nice, don't get me wrong. It hit lower and louder than anything else I own. On a nice solid bass note, it shook my floor like nothing else. But at $1449, I was very unimpressed. The polk has a lot of cone noise -- one might think the subwoofer is vented becuase it can make so much noise! Higher bass is weak, and overall the subwoofer sometimes seems a bit slow or late with music.

I paid $199 and $400 for the Infinities. They also hit very hard but not quite as low. They still shake the cabinets in my house and are very, very impressive. For most music, the Infinity won. It/They were fast to respond and hit hard. There were very few songs that had bass so low the infinity couldn't take it.

My concern is that I honestly could not decide on which one I liked better -- a $199 12" Infinity subwoofer or a $1449 10" Polk. They both had their strengths and problems. Both are very good subwoofers. But I guess my problem is the price of the Polk. I can't justify the price! There is no way the DSW is 7 times better than the Infinity.... There's no way its even 2x better. At times the Infinity even outperformed the Polk.


Maybe I just need to vent, but getting back to your question on this thread: Yes the Polk DSW MicroPro series is nice -- very good even! But its just not worth the money (at least the 3000 model). You may want to shop the competition and compare for yourself.

I own two micro pro 4000's and while they both sound great for music and home theater I wouldn't pay msrp for them. They have great mid bass slam but don't expect much audio output below 20hz. It takes a little work setting them up properly just like any other sub, but once setup correctly they blend very well.

I have been running a MicroPRO 2000 in my 2-channel system for about a year now. I really like it.

The 2000, 3000 and 4000 have adjustable features to help them blend in very well with one's speakers.

One can often find very good deals on MicroPRO subs at Polk's eBay store. I acquired mine there. It appeared to be brand new. I couldn't find a flaw on it.

on GL fo $200. so far i`m happy with the sub.
You can spend a lot of money for just the subwoofer.
