ClubPolk 100 PushUp Challenge! Come one...come ALL!

So now that I quit smoking and I am riding 4-5 days a week, I wanted to incorporate some upper body fitness. I was on a bicycle forum looking in the nutrition section and noticed a tread on push ups.

So here is the site http://hundredpushups.com/ and I thought if we could get some fellas and ladies together for some motivation to challenge ourselves and motivate each other.

So is anyone in? I thought it would be cool to try to start it next week.

I'm in but I should warn you guys that even when I'm not doing pushups, I've always been able to push out at least 50? And that's close to my age. Of course I weight-lift so maybe that's not fair. Most I ever did was 175 in my 20's. Building up to 100 is a bit tough...I find a sticking point usually sets in in the mid 70s or so?

So what's the plan. Take the test and do the weekly thing on the site. My problem is my current aerobic shape...not strength so much?

    In any case...count me in...

I already do about 115 every morning. But then again, I weigh about 130lbs sopping wet. That... and I'm pretty sure I don't have any proper technique.

I am also standing right behind you as you are reading this post. I'm that bad ****.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. In all seriousness, I have enough vices in my life. The short amount of time I spend every morning with an angel on my shoulder is nothing but a feeble attempt to yin out my yang.

I'm between 170 and 180 and I will rip out over 250 a night and throw in 400+ sit ups all in about an hour. But I eat like a garbage dump according to my friends. They also like to tell me I have a drinking problem. Personally I don't think I have a problem with it at all and I'd like to point out that I am quite good at it. I think most of my exercise is devoted to combating the ill effects of my diet and beer habits.

One day, I'll get off my dead butt and fix the pedals on the exercise bike and fire that puppy up again!

John... it appears that we are birds of a feather on the exercise tip. If I ever gave up my proverbial "hookers and/or blow", I would probably waste away to nothing.

Make 100 pushups a requirement for newbies to post something for sale in the classifieds. :D We'd get a lot fewer crap threads.

You guys are really claiming to do more than 100 pushups at a time, non-stop?

That's impressive! I went on a pushup kick earlier this year, but most I even could knock out at once was 70. However, I do touch my chest to the ground and go all the way up as well, so maybe if I did lesser ones, I could do more.

Perfect Pushups are pretty great. I can only do 45-50 of those at a time if I do them right, and I usually feel it pretty good afterwards. For $20, they're a good buy.

When I was in the police academy in 2004, I set our humble record with 117 push-ups without stopping... I about died. This was with a judge by my side with his hand under my chest in a fist that I had to touch every time. Anyone who says they are doing 250 in a row is insane! Or a really good story teller ;)

All that being said, I wouldn't mind getting up for a challenge... Who's the leader on this anyways? Avalanche?

I could do sets all day, but never more than 75 in a row.

It's been a while since I've done those numbers though. After blowing out my back(2 herniated disks, bulging disks, etc...), I can only do 40 in a row. :p

I'm definitely in. A friend and I are also doing a program over the summer that'll supposedly get us running 3 miles over a similar period of time, so it'll be great to add this to the regimen. However, finals are next week, so I'll likely wait a while before starting this program.

Oh, I see, the punk ex-cop wants to call me out again.

Guess what, douchebag, I never said I did 250 all in one shot. I said I do 250 in one night. My personal best in one shot was 122. I normally don't do more than 50 because it doesn't benefit, just hurts. I do 10 sets of 25 reps, with 10 sets of 60 reps of sit-ups in about an hour, alternating between push-ups and sit ups for each set. It's good cardio and good strength training. When done with that, it's either arm pulls on the weight machine with 150 pounds or chin ups on the chin up bar until I can't move the weight. Then I stop, grab some food and watch TV or piss people off on the Internet for fun. Then I go to bed.

    My kind of guy.

I got on a health kick around 1980. I'd do a million push-ups a day, all kinds of weight lifting, eating peanut butter sandwiches and bananas. It really worked out for me. I went from looking like the runt of the litter, to the runt of the litter with some swelling in my neck and upper chest area.

    I agree with MrNightly,

And haven't broken 100 consecutive push-ups since I was 20 something and had been training to do them for MONTHS! Someone else above has provided some support for my 70 something 'sticking' point.

If the average dude over 30 can do 100 or more pushups give yourself some credit--because the average guy my age...with the remote and the beer can't even do 10 without going into cardiac arrest.

Right now I'm probably at 50 but we'll check in tomorrow to see if that's the case....

Pull-ups even worse guys. How many of you can do 15 or more....I can't. But most of the students I see in our gym aren't able to either???

That's where the beer really weighs you down!!!

Same here. I do them on my knuckles due to comfort issues with my wrist. I am still stuck on 25 reps a set, but I do about 4 sets.

Also, I am doing a 3 mile or more regimen at least 3 times a week as well. I am hoping to do 6 miles by the end of May. :)
