So, after unpacking a LSiFX speaker after a long storage it sounded pretty bad. I though, hey, maybe surround speakers sound like that. So, I hooked up the other channel and it sounded fantastic. Something was up.....

Further investigation into the speaker cavity revealed that this piece had disconnected and taken a small piece of silicon with it. It looks like an inductor. I'm a little surprised. My LSi7s have fallen 5 feet on to tile floor and are fine. This speaker fell onto a plush couch and then rolled onto a plush carpet. Oh well.

Here is a picture of the part that fell off:

Now, looking at the circuit board it came from...

Based on the fact that the right side of the curcuit board looks slight damaged I can deduce the proper orientation I need to put that part back in.

Any suggestions on what glue to use to make sure this does not happen again?

Also, what am I soldering to? There are obvious spots if I check on the back of the circuit board. shall I just go with those???

Why didn't this piece have a nice plastic tie on it. the glue clearly failed here

heeelllp.

I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron.... but its hard to get to the circuit board without disconnecting lots of wires. So, if anyone is in the triangle area in NC and is more skilled with this type of thing (I've only soldered gold wire to indium diodes for physics research... nothing real) I could compensate somehow.

Reguar hot glue will work just fine. I think you are correct on where to solder the inductor. The bigger issue is to make sure the the "trace" on the board isn't damaged. I would guess it may have been dropped alot harder than a couch and carpet for this to happen:confused: The solder should have been strong enough to hold it in place without the glue. Maybe it was a cold solder from the factory? I'm sure someone with much more knowledge than I will respond and maybe give you more detailed help. Good luck:)

Given how hard I've smashed my LSi7s against tile floors I'm not going to shy away from admitting abuse. Those LSi7s are built like tanks and made it through college parties and falling of stands many a time.

Anyway, doesn't really matter whether it was a light fall or not given that its out of warranty.. I just need this inductor back on.

It really does not seem like there is much going on in the circuit board. Everything looks like large wires... should I still be worried about scratches to the silicon? It looks more like structural support here than infrastructure.

Get with Eric from Polk CS and see what they have to offer. Perhaps they can just get you new crossover and you install it.
