HFCS is in everything:( I am fairly cautious about how much my kids get. It is in lots of things you would consider healthy like juices. I get only 100% juice now for them, and I read many more labels now. My oldest (5) acts like a freak on HFCS and see gets tummy aches from it.
Definite crap besides the taste issues.

the real trouble with HFCS is that the body does not process it efficiently, and converts it to fat before burning it off as fuel. Sugar on the other hand, is used instantly by the body and converted to energy....
Then you also have the problem of bitterness and dryness to overcome. With sugar sweetened sodas, they actually refresh me. With HFCS I need two glasses of water to clean out my mouth and remove the bitterness from it afterwards. Sugar Rules!

Agreed. Soda has disappeared in our house...there is enough sugar in other products to keep 'em pumped though...sad that...

A typical ingredient in craft sodas is cane sugar, just like the old days. The big bottlers pulled it out cause cane sugar is more expensive and variable in pricing. Over the past few years there's been a bit of a resurgence of craft sodas and those regional brands that we all thought went extinct. Maybe the big boys are tying to get into the act, like brewers try to (not well, IMHO) for good beer.

I wonder what their reasoning is for using HFCS here in the USA and not in Mexico.

Were these just around for a few religious holidays and then they were going to pull them back off the shelves? Something about not using processed ingredients.

I had heard that they were putting soda with pure cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup on the shelves for Passover, since the HFCS version is not kosher for Passover.

I would consider going back to drinking soda if they made this change to sugar permanent.

The price of sugar in the states is higher. As always it's not about the quality, or health, it's about the bottom line.

I just picked up a 12 of DEW and Pepsi TB today. The Pepsi is better than the DEW in TB versions IMHO. I picked up the DEW for visitors;)

We FINALLY got Cheerwine in Atlanta a couple of months back.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

HFCS is probably easier and cheaper to manufacture; you can probably produce it from low grade feed-corn (which the U.S. produces mountains and mountains of) and it has a LONGER self life than real sugar.

I had my wife pick up some of both this weekend.

I thought it had a slightly cleaner taste but overall pretty similar to its HFCS counterparts. But... I rarely drink pop (or soda depending on your geographic location).

I know the Mountain Dew-heads around my work were so disappointed in the Throwback flavor, they had the vending company remove it from the machines. They described it as a Mellow Yellow taste. I didn't find that to be true, but who are you going to trust: the guy who hasn't had a Mountain Dew in literally 5 years or the guys who drink 8 a day?

I finally found some Pepsi Throwback to try today and I have to say I was disappointed with it. While it certainly isn't bad it just didn't quite have "IT". I've had many Cokes from Mexico that are made with sugar and they are great, the Pepsi's just aren't that good for some reason. YMMV

The wife bought me a case of MDew TB last night...you can seriously taste the difference!

I can say I prefer Throwback, but it's not as amazingly better as some people make it out to be.

    IMO
