Why they OVER-price all the speakers and amps? do they think we are deep-pocket?

I try to upgrade my system. As I do my research, i found that all the big-name speaker and amps are over-priced.

You can see a lot ads claiming " retail price $3000", onsale "700".

lol

especially some amps, $5000, $7000, lol.

Do they really cost so much to make it? Or there are too many deep-pocket guys in the world that can afford it.

Just curious.

Wowsers. Obviously, to some of us at least, some investments in this form of entertainment are better values than others. If you have invested a comfortable amount for your budget and like the results, then good for you. Enjoy. If not, well, the sky is the limit and you most likely will find diminishing returns at a certain point.

BTW, have you taken a reading or writing course beyond the 2nd or 3rd grade? Not trying to insult you, but if you have, and you want to be taken seriously maybe you want to brush up on those skills a bit...

Let me guess - you found them on eBay.

Yes, most quality name brand amps cost at least 1/4 of the retail price to make.

I doubt that you'll find a quality name brand amps manufactures sell their $3K amp for $700.

There are only a few reasons if they ever do

    1. Needs CASH seriously so they are selling or dumping the inventory at a loss.

    2. Going out of Business

    3. B Stock or Discontinued Models or seriously overpriced in the 1st place so they are discounting to be competitive.

If you are talking about Polk LSi speakers, I guess the main reason is that most people don't want to use separate amplification. 2. They are not very popular in the retail chain stores since they sounds sucks powering with AVR in the Demo room. So, Polk must be sacrificing from the retail price and dump them on eBay.

I assume anything you can't afford is "overpriced"...

Just because the MSRP is high and sometimes they reduce the price doesn't mean it is overpriced. In fact most of the "big name" mfgs do not allow for their gear to be reduced by their authorized sellers. Your internet deals are often from grey market sellers and you are buying a product that may or may not be NIB and more than likely has no manufacturers warranty. True high end gear is often made in small quantites and the cost of labor is a large part of the price. Low volume and high quality equals a high price.

Don't forget that for many high-priced audiophile components, you're buying a status symbol as well. The envy and respect someone can show towards your system is sometimes "priceless".

Musical Fidelity Superchager 550K mono power amp....regularly $2,499, now $1,250

    Cambridge Audio 840A integrated amp....regularly $1,500, now $899

    Marantz VC-6001 universal changer....regularly $699, now $249

I do think the retailers above can make a profit from selling these items at such a low price. Therefore, imagine how much more profit they can make i these components are purchased at or near their regular prices.

Hey, what is up with some of you guys. I have always seen patience and understanding when someone asks a question on this forum. Some of the posts are obviously offensive. I take it all back if this is an inside joke and I am not aware. If not, I cry RESPECT or the lack thereof. Degrading others is just not cool. Sorry but had to vent. High prices exist in most industries. Not a problem, just purchase within your price range or wait for the big sale of sales. Always going to be a small percentage of buyers who want to have the best and are willing to pay. Manufacturers are just filling the need. It would be nice if all of us had deep pockets but either some work harder, inherit more, or are just plain lucky. Win the lotto and you can have deep pockets too.

Sorry, but I intentionally wrote "some of you guys" as most responders were and are very sincere and helpful in their remarks. Totally agree with your additions on how one can achieve deep pockets. Guess I just must be overly defensive tonite-but after reading over the tread again, I don't think so.

One look at the OP's prior posts should explain most of the negative comments, coupled with the blanket statement "ALL" the big-name speaker and amps are over-priced. in this thread is certainly going to garner a certain amount of deserved derision.

If you join here, zip to 25 posts just to try and make a quick buck off the members here and follow that up with a silly thread and bad spelling, im actually surprised that the responses have been so tame.

LOL, you guys kill me. Alot of guys new to the home audio game don't understand what kind of mark-up there is in this business. When I worked for Circuit and Tweeter we would get discounts of almost 50% off on most of the manufacturers...including Polk. Circuit gave us 70% off on Infinity and HK. So Mr. woweu2006, listen to it, even if you polish **** it's still ****...no matter the price.

There has to be markup. How else are these companies going to buy material, pay wages and still make a profit? They are not making or selling this stuff out of the goodness of their hearts, they're trying to make money.

Brand X can afford to sell an amp for $600 because it was made off shore and the wages are minimal. Brand Y made in the US costs $2300 because they have to pay higher wages.
