RT3000 SAT Tweeter

Hello,
I have owned a RT3000 system, consisting of the RT3000P powered subs and RT3000SAT full range on top. I am the original owner since 2000 and for second time, at least one tweeter in the SATs has blown. I know I will have to purchase two new tweeters to keep matching characteristics of the speakers in check and that is fine and understandable.
In speaking with a Polk CS associate, the associate indicated Polk engineers have re-engineered that tweeter from the original design specification. How has the re-engineering of this tweeter affected the tweeter in itself, built better, materials, improved, etc ? Is this new tweeter used in any current Polk equipment? What might be an audible difference in the new tweeter compared to the old?
Thanks.

As I understand tweeter SL6506 is the replacement tweeter for SL6502 and the total depth of a SL6506 is approx 1/8 inch greater. Can anyone confirm the SL6506 tweeter fits into the existing cabinet RT3000SAT opening without modification to the cabinet tweeter opening?
