I hate Audiogon.

I have been doing this insane hobby since I was 12. When I was around 14-15 Audiogon became a little more known to me over EBay. But I have always preferred to shop in the Club Polk market place - as I could always find gear I was interested in.

As the market place here has, no offense, dried up - I constantly browse Audiogon.

I have come to the conclusion I absolutely hate Audiogon.

1) Even if I find something at a great price, if I email the seller - does not matter if I am the first viewer. I assure you the item is already sold and not available. Either that or the dude selling it only checks his email every 5 days and could care less who buys it as long as someone does.

2) Their search functions and advanced search functions SUCK.

3) Their "featured ads" take you to a big **** page full of other featured ads in which you have to find the ad you wanted to drool over from the start...

4) Their selling policies suck now. They offer zero to the table and they want to charge you a percentage.

There is zero convenience to Audiogon and -- yeah, I actually would much rather use EBay 100% of the time. Atleast there is a fair chance to actually buy something and not have to deal with people having a sense of communication and being a person of their word.

Ok, off to EBay! :)

    I know they do.

But atleast I can buy something and not have to sit there and wait for some dead beat on the other end to pull through.

I've bought most of my used gear on ebay.
So far my success rate is about 70%. There's always an idiot that misrepresents his ads and does a horrible job at packing/shipping.

What other options do we have other than Ebay, Audiogon/Videogon, Craigslist and polkaudio forum?
With the exception of polkaudio forum, They're all pretty weak at best.
I hate sending my money out in good faith to an unknown individual and be at their mercy
for a used product that might be misrepresented and arrives in pieces.
I refuse to buy anything other than a minor purchase on ebay.

    Ah, quit your whining.

Audiogon is a much better place to do business. Besides, you'll never find most of the gear on Audiogon ever listed on eBay.

I think you either don't know how to use the features there or are too impatient. I mean, the search function can't get any easier than that on Audiogon.

Tip: If you are serious about buying something, use the "Make your Offer" feature.

I've had some success with A'Gon, both buying and selling. I do get the occassional sellers who never answer their email.... and the item that has been sold, but not listed as sold. But, overall, I've had some good luck with A'Gon, and found some quality gear. I thought the search function works fine, but I'm always fairly specific when I'm browsing for an item.

Just a thought, but if someone puts something up on the Gon for a great price, sure, it's going to go quick. If you're just looking at getting the absolute lowest price then you're going to have to compete with everyone else for it and it's not going to last long. But that's the trade-off for any buying/selling, anywhere. Try to buy something that's fairly priced and not very rare (or extremely popular with low supply) and I'd bet you'll have better luck.

And for those saying that you are having no luck buying OR selling, well, to me that means as a seller you are pricing too high, and as a buyer are only looking for the "too good to be true" killer deals.

Because I pretty much sit at a computer all day at work I keep Audiogon open in my browser in the "new today" section and I refresh it about every hour. The new stuff doesn't make into it's category right away. I stays on the "new today" page for atleast 4-5 hours and that's the only place you can find it.

Many people know this so they watch the "new today" page as well, and great deals and popular items sell quickly. If you are already doing this then I'm not sure if there is any other way to snatch something right away.

I posted my Nak cdp yesterday and it's amazing how many views it had in the first 3 hours........over 80. It's still FS but Audiogon gets a lot of hits so a great deal or popular item can go quickly. Also saw a Jolida 1301 for $189 and it was gone in the first hour while I was deciding if I should buy it. It never even made to the Jolida area until after it was sold.

I'm an Agon member for several years and sold over 20 products using their services. Lately I had only problems, they double charged my credit card, erased my account and after putting back online required a fee of 50$ for reinstatement of account. I understand any platform needs some income in order to keep operating since hosting for large websites are quite expensive...but from 4$ they raised to 6$ + 2% and now they are deleting and reinstate accounts to charge $50?? that's simply insane!!!! The customer care service is horrible also since they reply once a week, of course if they ever do since sometimes they will ignore you. I decided to cancel my account with them since I didn't felt that my credit card information were in safe hands.

On the other hand I found a new selling platform, which is true is quite small and just being launched. They offer absolutely free service, quality customer care and they even have a suggestion section where you can tell your opinion which is clearly taken into consideration.
