Bad or good idea, President can turn the internet off at will.

A cybersecurity bill has been introduced and right now is referred to committee. Do you think this is a good idea? Here is a small part of what this would do if passed.

(c&p from a page I was reading on this topic)
This bill has been introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and the first assessment of the language is alarming. Among other things, this legislation would give the President of the United States the authority to "shut down" the Internet during a "national emergency" without providing any specifics on what that means.

Essentially, the Act would federalize critical infrastructure security. Since many of our critical infrastructure systems (banks, telecommunications, energy) are in the hands of the private sector, the bill would create a major shift of power away from users and companies to the federal government. This is a potentially dangerous approach that favors the dramatic over the sober response.

One proposed provision gives the President unfettered authority to shut down Internet traffic in an emergency and disconnect critical infrastructure systems on national security grounds goes too far. Certainly there are times when a network owner must block harmful traffic, but the bill gives no guidance on when or how the President could responsibly pull the kill switch on privately-owned and operated networks.

I don't see how that'd be possible while still maintaining communications between all the assorted Govt. & Military branches, it would have to be a VERY SELECTIVE "KILL SWITCH" !:)

They don't even need that. Just kill the digital trunk carriers and you effectively take down everything.

you are already being monitored, don't ask how I know, I just do. I would suggest a return to the glossy for your monkey spank, like vinyl, no digital footprint.

The military should be on Mil-Net so if there is an emergency they should be, relatively, unscathed. The Internet has become so ubiquitous that shutting it down, if possible, would likely have huge unintended ramifications.

I suspect that for this to work the network topology would need to be redesigned with the government in charge of key central routers. Of course, if that happened then it would be easy to monitor all traffic.

Whatever became of the FBI program (forgot the name) to install monitoring software on routers?
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

All major isp providers have had them for years (black boxes). Without going into detail they are more invasive now than ever since 9-11. Special divisions have been setup to decipher all the info. that comes through. Everything that you do is logged one way or another. Here is a little insight that is available to the general public that I can show you. The links are to the DNI website (Director of National Intelligence).

A few "acquaintances" give me insight as to what happens behind the scenes on quite a few things. No need for tin hats for me other than maybe Halloween. But, if they are magic tin foil hats I may twist them into braids and use em' as interconnects!! Do you happen to know the tin foils purity??;)

    You'd be surprised.

Especially people who do things like mouth off at you and try to do something like hack a Facebook account while they are logged in to their OWN Facebook account. Then they get all indignant and tell you that you broke the law when you send them an email warning them to take a hint that they are out of their league and then give them their entire life's info from family and kids names, address of home, office and the phone number at their desk at work, home phone, cellphone and even what companies that they hold credit, loan and bank accounts with.

Pfft! Like who DOESN'T know how to find that stuff! I mean, c'mon!

Everyone really needs to watch this ENTIRE video. It contains a lot of information interrelated to very important issues beyond the title subject matter.

Watch the entire video regardless of what you think of its creator or your initial impressions of the material. Pass this on to others for evaluation of the information regardless of your personal opinion. There is more at stake for everyone throughout the world than you might think. Its fast approaching 11:59 for everyone.
