I have a S&W M&P 9mm that I carry and a Remington 870 for the house. There's also an CAR-15 in the closet for my wife. I pity the fool that enters my house uninvited.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Just a measly Kimber .45, loaded with a 10rd mag of 185g HP's. Hopefully that does the trick...

We were waiting for a cab in oakland ca and three ganster dudes came up with shotguns and 9 mm weapons and beat us with them and robbed us. They beat me good i had to go to the hospital and beat her as well. We ran into the house with them chasing us and had no weapons of any kind. They tried to break windows but the dog bit two of the guys and scared them off. I called 911 and they told me it will be a 20 minute wait for a cop. When they finally came they told me because of budget cuts they can not do finger prints or track (GPS) the i phones they stole. I filled a report and that is all they can do. You can still see the finger prints on the window from the idiots that did not wear gloves. I have never owned a gun but now i am buying a 45 caliber handgun because the police will do nothing about this and they have my wallet with my address on it. I never thought the day would come when i have to take the law i my hands beacause the cops take 20 minutes to help and when they come they tell me there is no budget to help catch them. Isnt this why i pay so much TAXES to get fire and police help. Anyway is was going to buy a XPA-3 emotiva but now i have to get a gun. Do they make gun amps? that would be the product of the year. A threee channel 150 watt 45 caliber. My friend is in shock and she is in the hospital too with post tramadic stress disorder. they put a shotgun in her mouth and made her suck it like a ......you know. These guys do not belong on the streets but there is no one to stop them. I am not a mean person but after seeing my friend that is still shakeing and can not speak while her husband is dying with liver failure makes me feel like i want to find them. If i did i would be aressted WHERE IS THE JUSTICE can some one answer that!!!!!!!!
At least get some relief knowing they'll be in jail for something, at some point....or dead. I was going to say that a .45 isn't a "starter" weapon.. An 18.5" barreled 12ga. shotgun is very inexpensive and easy to hit what you're aiming at with , not to mention the pure intimidation factor when you "rack" the slide !
Who told you that? 100 rounds with my kahr .40 will put a bruise on my hand , when 200 rounds with my kimber .45 do even bother me , it has a lot to do with the gun, also like you said a small hamerless revolver is a good choice, but loaded with +p or .357 they have a lot of recoil; On the other hand , have you ever fired a 12ga? , and you think a .45 is too much? besides I don't think he want's to walk around carring a shotgun. -
I wasn't refering to recoil energy per se, just simplicity and safe operation. Semi-autos need more maintenance than wheel guns. A shotgun is for keeping under the couch/bed...DUH ! I you'd like to spout off about your "this pistol or that" etc. as regards recoil and muzzle flip,I don't think there's too much that's gonna jump more than my lightweight, 3"bbl. .44mag. mountain gun firing factory fresh Federal cartridges.:)
PS:
I own a cheap, cheap Mossberg 18.5" 12ga. pump & my WIFE has a Ruger SP-101 2.25" .38cal 5 shooter, that we both fire +P in with no recoil to speak of. -
Damn, I'm sorry to hear of this Jayson. Wow.
Sounds like you are doing the right thing. Best wishes for all involved, especially the kids and mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. I cary a 45 because a cop is to heavy, no seriously you should be real glad you or anyone else was not injured or killed, thats what those scumbags do, And defending yourself and others is your responsibility alone, dont count on the Police theyre always going to be to far away. Congrats on the getting the 45 Some advise thought, take a defensive wepon training course with your 45, take it out and shoot it reguraly. get used to it and the Idea that if the event occurs like the one you had and it gets pulled you will probaly have to use it. and no blanks! they will get you in more trouble

Agreed 100% having blanks will get you killed for sure.Your better off not having a gun at all then having one that is useless,if your opponent/s feels they have the upper hand they might not kill you but if you fire your weapon it's a sure thing there going to return fire.
The no 1 thing I tell people all the time is be aware of your surroundings most problems can be avoided if you can see them before they become a problem and be prepared you need to be able to react to any given situation without a lot of thinking,if you have to think about what your going to do it's most likely going to be to late, leaving your weapon in the house when your outside for example is not a good idea.
If you live or work in an enviroment where theres a high likelyhood of getting assaulted then be prepared at all times. If your a lady and carry pepper spray in your purse and dont want to carry it on your person then leave that pocket unzipped for easy access. I know people that work in high risk institutions and I tell them dont leave your pepper spray or screamer, radio etc in your office carry these items with you at all times the odds of getting back to your office is minimal if attacked, you need to be able to respond instantly.
Take a few classes on hand to hand combat also so if you ar in a situation where a weapon isnt handy or not needed you will have the knowledge and training to be able to protect yourself. Once again a well trained person is going to react to a situation much faster then someone who isnt and the odds of gaining the upper hand is in your favor even if your opponent is much larger or armed and your not.
It's a shame that people have to go to these lengths in america to feel safe but things are what they are. I offer my deepest sympathies to you and your friend and hopefully these individuals will be caught.
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
GET OUT NOW! I was born and raised in Hayward not far from Oakland and still have family there. I just recently moved my mother inlaw out of there due to the same circumstances. I still miss some parts of NORCAL but Oakland needs to be wiped off the map.

I also agree 100% and add if I fire a fire arm off I'm aiming to kill you. Why dead people sue less.

Jayson, when you get to Santa Cruz...send me a PM ( Or before if you want to drive down in advance ). I shoot at least 500-700 rounds a week 10 minutes from where you are moving to ( One place outdoors...another an indoor range ) .
I have anything you might want to try out, and can instruct you in the safe handling of firearms prior to actually shooting at the range. I also go to San Jose at least once a week ( About halfway between you and I at the moment ) , and go to a couple of indoor ranges there as well ....so thats also a possibility. The ones in San Jose are especially good because you can shoot shotguns in the indoor ranges ( Something not allowed here locally  )
Great replies from the Polkies....blanks will get you killed ...my jaw dropped too......and always shoot to kill ( X 10 here in CA ) or dont shoot at all.....and learn your states ( Down to city/county ) laws on when deadly force can and cannot be used...they vary wildly so learn them well. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club
