I was helping a friend on tuesday get her husbands things together for the hospital.(liver problems). We were waiting for a cab in oakland ca and three ganster dudes came up with shotguns and 9 mm weapons and beat us with them and robbed us. They beat me good i had to go to the hospital and beat her as well. We ran into the house with them chasing us and had no weapons of any kind. They tried to break windows but the dog bit two of the guys and scared them off. I called 911 and they told me it will be a 20 minute wait for a cop. When they finally came they told me because of budget cuts they can not do finger prints or track (GPS) the i phones they stole. I filled a report and that is all they can do. You can still see the finger prints on the window from the idiots that did not wear gloves. I have never owned a gun but now i am buying a 45 caliber handgun because the police will do nothing about this and they have my wallet with my address on it. I never thought the day would come when i have to take the law i my hands beacause the cops take 20 minutes to help and when they come they tell me there is no budget to help catch them. Isnt this why i pay so much TAXES to get fire and police help. Anyway is was going to buy a XPA-3 emotiva but now i have to get a gun. Do they make gun amps? that would be the product of the year. A threee channel 150 watt 45 caliber. My friend is in shock and she is in the hospital too with post tramadic stress disorder. they put a shotgun in her mouth and made her suck it like a ......you know. These guys do not belong on the streets but there is no one to stop them. I am not a mean person but after seeing my friend that is still shakeing and can not speak while her husband is dying with liver failure makes me feel like i want to find them. If i did i would be aressted WHERE IS THE JUSTICE can some one answer that!!!!!!!!

Wow - glad you and your friend made it through. (at least it turned out better than it could have)

Not going to comment on the police or firearm as you have to protect yourself and your family as you see fit, but I would definately change (and perhaps enhance) any locks or garage door openers in your house. (as a spare key or garage door opener could easily be lifted without immediate notice.) Also contact your insurance agent to make sure EVERYTHING in your place is covered for theft or vadalism. It would not hurt to borrow a camera (if you don't have one) and make sure you inventory everything you have for insurance. (video would be great, but pictures may do it - burn it to a CD and have your insurance agent hold onto it or put it in a safe deposit box) Think of it as anything you don't have inventoried or a picture of - you won't get back.....

Good luck to you and your friends and try to stay safe.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully no one else will attempt to beat you for the next 2 weeks, as Kalifornia has a waiting period, you know, so the victim can "cool off." I believe concealed carry is out to in kali--don't know what to tell you, other than to vote the people out who like to leave good law-abiding citizens unprotected.

Hell of a story man. Glad you made it through relatively unscathed, coulda been a lot worse.

Everyone shoudl take responsibility for protecting themselves and their family, in whatever way they see fit. The police respond to and clean up after crimes, they don't prevent them.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Alll they had to do is call att&t and tell them to track the phones and the police would go the address and get these idiots off the streets.

Police Should Prevent if at all possible and investigate on the next stage. But many police departments are under-manned and they are mostly busy watching for traffic on the roads to cite the speeding vehicle. So, it may take a little while for them to reach the life threatening situations.

The iPhones the **** carry may be stolen phones (or rob at gun point) as well.

Glad you and your friend are physically ok. But that would give me nightmares for a long time. Hind thinking is always 100%, but just IMHO so don't beat me over this.

Need to call 911 when guns are around "Shoots Fired"

Carry one and use it people who wish to rob you sense fair so if you don't they WILL.

If I couldn't carry one in California I would move also, but a 12g for home is very nice. The 45 is nice also, but a bit large to carry around IMHO, I would carry something smaller. 38 special would never jam and 5 shots work for me.

I am this weekend. I am moving to the santa cruz mountains were there are no gangs. I talked to my landlord and they told me i can not leave the lease for another 6 months. OF course!!! i am leaveing anyway on saturday beacuse i am not going to wait and get shot. I just talked to my friend mellisa and she is worse and i think these guys took more than money they took her life. She has been violently shakeing and crying for 3 days now and the doctors said she will be like this for a long while. Mellissa has three kids that she can not take care of now because her husband is in the hospital too. The kids are going to stay with me in santa cruz until she is better. One of her kids get into a fight at school today and almost really hurt this other kid because he was dressed like the one who hit mommy. See how violence is past on and on and on. Now this kids anger will pass on the another inocent kid and so on. I love this country but Need justice and to stop the continuing violence.

That sounds absolutely unacceptable! Glad you made it! Where I live we don't have this kind of thing for the most part and though a number of people own guns they hunt with (I don't) almost no one owns handguns or feels the need to. But we have very little gun violence up here under Canada. It's not like people haven't lost their jobs and are having a hard time. But they're not roaming the streets with weapons or going berserk and firing on their neighbors?

Do what you need to protect yourself, but I'm with George on this one. Get OUT if you can!

Get some good certified training along with it. Having the tool is part 1, part 2 is how to use it properly and effectively.

Sorry you had to endure this. I've been held up twice in my life, at gun point---NOT fun. Luckily they just wanted my money.

It will get really really scary when they outlaw hand guns (because we all know licensed gun ownership people are the bad guys) we will all become sitting ducks. If the bad guys got what was coming to them most times they would be less of them.

AMEN to that.......... besides a well trained 120# GS.. home & audio are well protected by a few firearms, the funnest to fire is a S&W 610 6 inch made to a 10mm mag..shots a 40 caliber too .talk about one hell of a recoil..but this sucker would stop a 400 pound meth addict on PCP :D

Good luck on your relocation.....38 is a great start and as posted before....learn how to use it correctly...get out to the range and fire a few hundred rounds..get use to it, know how it reacts, and always remember

RULE #1 If you are going to pull a gun on someone you must be able to use it, and not just show it as you never know who your pulling a gun on.......

A good watch dog helps out too especially to alert you if anyones around....

    Be safe....................

that is a good point BUT being trapped in a house without help forces my to get a gun. I would rather there be no guns but we live in a bad world now and i need something in my house. I will not be walking around with it but in my home i want to fell safe not scared. My uncle said to put blanks in the gun because the sound will scare them off. Unless they are there to kill but for the average robber blanks will make them pee themselves.

BAD ADVICE. Get some training. Never use blanks, never shoot to wound, etc. The presence of a gun rarely scares off the criminal element anymore, and chances are they are armed as well. You put blanks in that gun, and you're gonna get yourself killed--I **** you not.

You MUST be able to prove that you feared for your life (shooting to wound kills this defense in court) as your justification for shooting. Either you shoot to kill, or don't shoot at all. If this is a concept you are not comfortable with, I'd recommend ditching the firearm idea and getting a house alarm system. Seriously. Study your states laws.

Jayson, feel free to PM me for more info.

You might try to get your friend Melissa to go out to the range with you, try to work some of the trauma and rage out putting rounds into a target.
I know it's no consolation, but, going by numerical odds, if you had been armed that day, you and your friend would probably be dead today. Or you'd have to live the rest of your life getting over killing some people, even if they were trashbags.
    Try to get some counseling.

i am going to get a .38 this is what my hunting friend reccommends.

I was going to say that a .45 isn't a "starter" weapon. Revolvers are much safer for inexperienced users, especially the hammerless double action only ones. An 18.5" barreled 12ga. shotgun is very inexpensive and easy to hit what you're aiming at with , not to mention the pure intimidation factor when you "rack" the slide !
