    Jstas,

Whats a Kenwood mask? I have the KDC-MP522. I love the units Kenwood has made of late.

BTW- Love the ride dude. Sweet truck. Always have likes the flair-side look.

Kenwood was the first company to come out with a rotating face plate. They called it the M.A.S.K. faceplate. I forget what it stands for. My Kenwood head unit is a KRC-PS955. It was one of the first eXcelon units and incorporated the revised M.A.S.K. faceplate system. What the M.A.S.K. faceplate system does is it flips the faceplate around to leave a completely blank face when the stereo is off. It sits flush with the trim and is pretty much tamper proof. If anyone tries to tear it out of the dash, they are going to make the unit unuseable. They have had it since the early 90's and now it is called the D-M.A.S.K. which is still motorized. When the faceplate is reversed, it looks like a flat, radio-delete panel. Nobody can tell for sure what it really is when it is off. Basically, that whole stealth thing again. Since every other piece of equipment is pretty well out of sight, it offers no eye candy for would-be theives. It also looks way cool flipping out of the dash when I start the truck!

Ok now I know what you are talking about. I saw a Alpine and Sony unit do that. I cannot remember if I saw any of the new Kenwoods do it.

BTW- how do you like your kenwood?

Nice truck! The XTerras look pretty sweet, but I had to pull one out of the sand in Florida with my 4x2 inline 6, 4.9L Ford F150, but maybe that's just becuase the driver didn't know anyting about how to drive in sand.

Check again for those Kenwoods. Roughly 75% of the entire Kenwood product line for head units has a D-M.A.S.K. or motorized D-M.A.S.K. faceplate now.

As far as how I like it, I've had it since about 1997. It works great and sounds even better. I have a CD Changer for it and its running a 1200 watt Kenwood eXcelon KAC-X650D amplifier. I have Polk dB series components and subwoofer. The whole system performs very well and I have yet to hear anything in any other store or car that comes close to the kind of sound that is coming out of this stereo. I haven't reached the point at where I start hearing distortion because that point is far beyond comfortable listening levels, into the permanent damage range.

So yeah, I like it. Alot! :D

Polks may be on my short list for the Xterra, and was looking at the alpine head units, I have always liked the green display and looks of the Alpines, they look expensive and start at $159.00 up to like $800.00 for the top level until you get into lcd displays and such.. then its grand and up.. much to much for the family truck..
I was thinking polk componets and maybe a single bridged sub with small enclosure.. anyways we will seee, the stock system sounds pretty good really
