The only way to tell is to pull one of the mid's. Polk made some transisional speakers using up old parts for newer model speakers. It could be 2a or 2b.

Agreed.. pull out one of the mid bass drivers.. and it will usually say what model it is..

With the second picture you posted with the grill off. I hadn't noticed the pedestal is different than the 2A.. so it could well be a 2B. But without pulling one of the drivers out.. it's just a guess on anyone's part.

Look on the back at the label, where the jacks are. My 2Bs are labeled there! I have 2B studios. The oak vinal veneer is darker looking on mine, but that could be the photo. Mine has a pin and blade IC, but that I've heard from others you could have a blade/blade on a 2B.

??? I thought the pedestal like that would have to be 2A because 2B don't have a pedestal, they just have the bottom and top wood plates...

......There were 2 versions as were mentioned. This is the Studio Version which came in OAK and Black. The wood cap was the more popular with wrap around grille cloth.

Hillbilly61 has a pair like mine in oak. Maybe he can post a picture.

Wait... so you're saying it's possible these are 2B? http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/ele/1110684252.html

Also, so there is no way to know other than checking the mid-sized woofers?

FWIW...I just pulled the 6.5s in my SDA 2s that look just like the OP's except mine have the added base. They are p/b and the 6.5s are 6511s & 6503s, on the 6511s is stamped SDA2B. these all have dates from the month of May 1989. Also on one of the labels on the rear of the case, there's a small sticker approx. 1/2" X 5/8" in size with the letter B showing. If those indicators don't mean that they are in fact SDA2Bs, then......:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::) PS everybody seems to be confused about the material used for the cases, calling it MDF, all of my Polks are constructed of plain old garden variety PARTICLE BOARD-they're two entirely different materials.;)

Sorry to hijack, just wanted to help "possibly" clarify that your 2s are Bs after all ! Good luck on your sale !!!

They are SDA2B The little # in the back is probably the crossover part #. I tried to get Dee to do this with his as the SDA 2 will have MW6510's in them.

JT, I was told that any model 2 that looked like dee's or mine, that has the pedestal couldn't be B's. Just goes to show that you can't always believe what you read. Maybe dee's had the pedestal at one time and was removed for some reason. I'm just happy to confirm that mine are capable of receiving the "TL" modifications/upgrade ! I almost prefer that style of cabinet over the top & bottom "slab" versions, however on mine, the cheesy vinyl is rough and going to be replaced by veneer (someday). I have SRSIIs that are going to be gone over first. BTW where did Myer Emco end up at, I saw the store on G'town Pike turned into a Tweeter. Are there any better quality audio stores in R'ville' ,Bethesda or the district anymore ?? I've been avoiding Mont. CO. for a while now. I used to shop at Audio Buys in the Wal.Hill shopping center a long, long time ago. That place was nice because the staff didn't all have sticks up their asses when I cruised in there in dirty blue collar attire and proceded to spend around 3 grand in one afternoon.:)

To exercise my stupidity here. What does 'pin and blade' denote--the connectors on the back?

Also are these guys still on the market. And how would you describe the sound. I've yet to hear these models?

What tweeter is in there (2000, 2500? other?) And are there new drivers available for the 6+ woofers?

    Thanks...

Yes the pin/blade is the connector on the back that connects the interlock cable to each speaker. some polk's have a blade/blade connection. from my understading only one wire connects the speakers the other blade or pin is just a stablizer connection.

My SDA 2's have a B/B connection, My SDA SRS 1.2's have a P/B connection.

The "sound" is indescribable !! This model can accept the new RDO194 tweeters and there is an XO modification you can do to enable them to use the RDO198 also!! Go buy them NOW !!!!:D

Actually, that's incorrect. My 2B's have a blade/blade connector. Not saying yours aren't 2B's, just adding to the confusion surrounding SDA's and the various iterations.

Either way, I'm sure they sound great and are well worth the price. Good luck with the sale.

    OK - correction

...the earlier versions of the SDA 2 B's had "Blade-Blade"
The LAST version made was "Pin & Blade"
If it is "Pin & Blade" it is definitely 2 B's - after that it was discontinued.
