Women and Big Speakers

Hello forum members,

I have read many reviews both in this forum and in others about how guys had to give up their dreams of owning, or worse yet sell there favorite speakers because their wife made them. This is a terrible injustice. I recently acquired a pair of SDA 1A's a couple of months ago. Before I went to pick them up I told my fiance about all of these poor guys who had to give them up because they were too big! Like me she thought it was terrible and told me that she would never want me to give up something that I so much enjoyed, no matter what they look like or how much space they take up. Why is this happening to so many out there?

I think fiance is the key word here :D

In a perfect world men would have there own room where they could put whatever there hearts desired in it and women would have theres, as a rule they have different tastes in things and what is important to them is usally not whats important to us.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

My wife lets me keep the RTA11TL's but that is only because she love me. If they were SDA 1A's they would likely be gone.

Better have keeping the SDA's included as part of your marriage vows. Otherwise, the story may change once the honeymoon is over.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

My "EX" (ex being key here) had no problems at all with my huge speakers UNTIL she decided to remodel. Then she conveniently ommited my audio system in her "scheme" for redecorating. I brought that point up and she was steadfast in her decisions.
NOW I date a killer gal that's into audio. She runs Altec Valencia "A" models, Dynaco ST-70, McAlister ML-33 pre, Denon DCM-444cdp, and an old Pioneer PL-51 TT. These are her choices of my "hand me downs". She's great at moving furniture out to get a good sound in her room and is always first in helping set up a new system. No marriage plans here, I've got it good being single and having a "part time partner". Afraid things would change.
I'm envious of the marriages with an understanding wife.

Just to renew your faith-I'm a woman and my speakers are 8' feet tall by 3' feet wide each. In fact, I have a listening room devoted to them! My husband tolerates my expensive hobby! Obviously, I think large speakers are a sight to behold for both the eyes and ears! My Dad was a nut for electronics and he taught me well! DJ

    +1 Darla!

As for big speakers. If there is room for them & everything else that needs to go into the room, then fine. Or if it is a separate room that isn't the livingroom that doesn't have room to spare for such huge speakers knock yourself out.

But if you live in a small apt & are married, work out a compromise, because BOTH of you have to live there.

Awesome. Not too many of us women are into this and I love to see that.

SDA SRS 2.3tl's flank our plasma. On top of one sits an asparagus fern drapping down the front and side. One of our cocker spaniels does what we call the "fern dance" slowly walking under the fern mesmerized letting the fern tickle his body. My wife has never complained about the speakers, but I do think the dog would kill both of us if we decided to get rid of them!

I guess I could say that I'm lucky with whom I married. I've had up to 14 pair of speakers in the house at one time, most of those could be considered as large by today's standards. 6ft tall Carver's, 135lb SDAs, and so on. She never really said anything other than the part about having speakers that weren't being utilized.

COOL! :D I was wondering what the male/female ratio is in this hobby & forum in particular. You can never tell about a handle someone will use....

That said, my wifey puts up with my hobby and enjoys the outcome. She does keep me in check with $ outlays as I have the propensity and means to drop some serious $ in support of of this hobby. Concerning the things I bring in and sometimes rotate out, she adjusts the decor accordingly. I never go over the proverbial top either....

Nduich, since you are a soon to be hubby, my advice is to expect and make clear that your soon to be wifey to put up with your hobby and adjust things in her schema accordingly. Trust me, you will DEFINITELY adjust things in your schema as she settles in. :D

There is an element of the HT crowd that has to take other family members into consideration,to each their own.I have never in 30+ years had any issue with gear and wifey. The smallest front speakers I have are Polk, about 40 inches tall, they are in my bedroom 5.1 set.I have 3 other sets,Living area,Den(both about 4ft w/multi subs)and 5.1 in garage.

My policy is,I had gear when we met(although only 2ch)what you see is what you get.I also think if the other half really loves ya they love to see you happy,at least in my case.If audio was my only hobby I wouldn't even feel guilty.
