I have had my new system for 3 months now, and i find myself listening to all sorts of music now (more then hard rock or metal) i really love the new sounds i am hearing.

Nothing is better then hearing the echo's in the vocals, and the pick hitting the strings with such clarity.

If my system sounds this good with what i got, i can only imagine what the rigs sound like that some of you guys have. I still find myself in awe when i put on some of the new music that i have aquired these last few weeks.

I am so looking forward to finishing up a two channel rig.
I am going to go with a SS amp. I thought about going with another emotiva but i axed the idea. I all ready have the XPA-3 in the system i have now.
I really have my mind set on Rotel pre/amp-amp-CDplayer. I have looked at carver/adcom/nad. yes i am sure they do just fine, but since this is going the the livingroom, for my wife's need it will have to look good as well.
She likes the look's of the products that emotiva has cause she likes the blue lights LOL.

The music i have really been enjoying as of late is.

SEAL s/t
SADE greatest hits
JOSS STONE Itroducing Joss Stone
MARC ANTHONY Mended
DAVID BOWIE best of
PHIL COLLINS but seriously
RAY CHARLES Genius & Friends
ALAN PARSONS PROJECT The Essential
EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER Brain Salad Surgery
and belive it or not MICHAEL JACKSON's off the wall.

This is music i never thought i would even consider having in the mix.

I want to find some classical music to put in the mix as well, but not sure where is a good place to start. any ideas?

With what i have, i am in music heaven. The A9's have great bass!! i leave the sub off now days. Not sure if this is due to the Pioneer SC-07 but they sound great.

    Larry,

I've heard the Rti-A9s and I couldn't agree more. Incredible BASS there with a good amp. I first listened to them on an older Elite 94, I think, at a Tweeter before they disappeared. I think the 9's are the least 'bright' of the Rti series--love that High-mid array of 2 (5") and the soft-dome. Think that helps tone down the brightness along with the crossovers for that version.

That would be my choice if I were upgrading. And with the 07...I can only imagine.

LOL! I just recently started listening to 'Watercolors' on XM, via DTV. It's easy listening jazz, with a LOT of bass. Which you should notice with the SC-07.

Maybe it's just me, but Pioneer found the bass in the music.

For an up to date and some classical with a twist, try AMPARO by Lee Ritenhour and Dave Grusin.

    Just kidding.

Check out some Nickel Creek when you get a chance. The 1st and 2nd albums are my favorite.

I can identify with most of the above...Anthony, Collins and Mikey don't do it for me though. Joss Stone...I discovered at the end of the Fantastic 4 film one. Then started a search...very impressed there.

As far as the classical stuff...it would help to know what your tastes are. Orchestral, Opera, Strings, Piano, Cello, Concertos, Chamber music, Quartets. I'm no expert but that's a vast universe. If you're new to it, the first thing to think about is Beethoven or Mozart? If you don't have a set yet...a complete set of Beethoven's 9 symphonies is an essential part of any classical library.

Just a few thoughts. I'm an old Bowie man myself. Ziggy Stardust was my first album purchase (LP).

    Enjoy....

I'm listening to AMPARO right now. One of my favorite pieces is the Pavane by Gabriel Faure. I don't know how to put that little thing over the e  Most of the versions of the Pavane do not have a soloist, but Renee Fleming just gives me the goose bumps!

Listen to some FM NPR stations for many jazz and classical selections.

If you have no antenna get some $10 rabbit ears from Radio Shack.

a person's musical tastes often times changes are we mature.. you're a grown up now. :D

in my 20's I never would have thought about listening to Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett, but now I like both. I guess it's also good to break away from the music you're used to listening to.. and try out some new stuff. i have been a fan of Sade's since she arrived on the music scene in the 80's. I got tired of her in the the last 15 yrs.. and just now getting back to liking her again, but this time on vinyl over CD's. ;)

You're the 3rd person I've seen recommend this work. I do not have it yet but I'm curious, who did the work you heard?

    Gordon,

I have two versions of this piece and I definitely prefer one. Now the question is which one....I'll have to look through my collection and get back to you, because I honestly don't remember without looking...Possibly early dementia....just kidding.

Also, to treitz3 above, I don't think my tastes 'ever' stabilized and I'm at the half-century point. Still have a greater range of tastes than almost anyone I know?

Didn't mean to imply that. I'm just saying that when you reach a certain point with gear? You will listen to things that you NEVER would have otherwise listened to. That's when it all really starts. At least that's the way it happened for me.........

This is how I picked up Tori Amos... thanks to hearing the demo at PolkFest. I went out and got the CD the day after I got home. Normally, I wouldn't listen to her, but when used as demo material, or just to get myself back "in to" my speakers, it does the trick.

Also, try some Enya. Full range sound on most of her CDs. I would suggest Watermark to begin with. The two parts of Storms in Africa, as well as Orinoco Flow, will blow you away.

As I age, 50+, I find my horizons spreading beyond my self imposed bias. Having kids in the late 20's introduces me to music I would never have considered without them. I've heard some quite unusual stuff I wouldn't spend a dime on and some I've bought entire collections based on what the kids brought over.

I've reached the point in my system that it is pretty much done and can now enjoy more music instead of trying to find "the" piece. I do have to admit that vinyl is attracting me, maybe in effort to refind my youth?

Recommendations to add to your list would be Kd Lang's 49th Parrellel and for classical I'd start with Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Very powerful and emotional music- definitely my favorite classical cd. Be sure to get a recording that is played well and recorded well.

Larry, for a starter collection of colorful classical music in fine performances and sound at bargain prices the following linked items are suggestions I often make: Holst, Planets ; Tchaikovsky, Swan Lake ; Respighi, Symphonic Poems ; Ravel, Daphnis et Chloe ; Brahms, Hungarian Dances . These would total about $30, with free shipping.
