If you're only doing medicine for the paycheck, then:
A). You don't belong in medicine
. You made some bad choices in school if you're only looking for a big paycheckThere is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -
If a ceo wants more money....Oh I am worth it look how much I made for the company. If a doctor complains that they are making so much less then:
oh you're only doing it for the money you don't belong in medicine.
Very educated of you...you must be a lawyer. -

:D The devil is always in the details....have to agree here.
But I believe the whole thing revolves around wage control.A doctor doesn't want to spend all that coin for schooling, work his **** off,to be told he can only make so much,no more so than a CEO,a secretary,a small buisness owner,or a computer whiz.Unfortunately, some people do make career decisions based solely on a paycheck, and thats why you end up with bad doctors, lawyers, etc. They don't love or have passion for what they do.Not saying it's right or wrong, but we have been sold a society that tells us if your not rich, your an ideot.I have great respect for doctors, nurses, that truely want to help people, that shoud be the driving force to wanting to become a doctor, but compensation needs to be on par with talent.I also agree that doctors are open to more lawsuits probably than any other profession, but nobody cares to tackle the problem of B.S. lawsuits, that drive up insurance costs. You would take money out of the pockets of lawyers, who just so happens to make up a good percentage of those makeing the laws.A vicious circle no doubt.Bottomline is to do what you enjoy, what your passionate about, money will come to you if your good at what you do.Then vote for elected officials who will not screw with your ability to prosper.HT SYSTEM-

YOU said you were leaving the field because of the wages, not me. Lots of stereotypes being thrown around on both sides of the issue. As a private banker I have dealt with lots of physicians and lots of executives. I have a very good understanding of their worlds (given the amounts of money I lend them...I better understand them). There are those in it (medicine, business, etc) for lots of reasons....money, power, fame...as well as the desire to help people, build something tangible, leave a legacy, improve quality of life, etc. The reasons are not mutually exclusive to any profession. Drs. don't have a lock on the empathy and caring about people side and execs don't have a lock on the greed, money/profit only side. I've seen CEOs agonize over the problems of their employees and I've seen Drs churn out as many surgeries as possible to pay for the new mansion…and vice versa. I've known CEOs that make less that $100K and doctors that make $3M from their practice. I also know of situations that are the exact opposite. I know executives that are cold, bottom line, regardless of the human costs types and I know doctors that forego any payment (or spend out of their pocket) to help a patient. I also know situations where these roles are reversed.
So let’s don't get caught up in the stereotypes on either side of the issue.

Of course it is.

ok now i know that you are baiting me.
No. Not at all. As was eloquently stated by another member:He's not baiting you... All he is pointing out is that there is a justification for a lot of these salaries. These are things that a good ceo is concerned with. I agree that there may be some that are concerned with the above, but I would venture that most ceo could care less about those under them.
I don't know that it's appropriate to typify all, or even a large percentage of CEO's as selfish, greedy, self centered, self absorbed ****. Until I come across some credible research that validates the "most CEO's are evil" hypothesis, I'll give them the same benefit of the doubt that I extend to every other group.:)
The bad CEO's are the ones who get all the media attention...just like bad cops. There are good and bad people in every line of work. I try not to get caught up in stereotyping. I have read many executive biographies where they spoke of agonizing over decisions that they knew were going to have catastrophic effects on employees and on the communities in which they did business. Why else would they extract so much capital from a company instead of putting it into benefits that could help its employees?
Executive compensation is determined by the board of directors. There are CEO's who have engaged in theft of corporate assets, but this appears to be a small number compared to the class.
As good as the pay and perks are for CEO's, I never see longs lines of well qualified people vying for one of these positions when they become available. Corporate boards usually have to go on a treasure hunt. Often, their desired candidate turns down the job. The "corporate throne" can be lucrative, but it comes with a price that most qualified individuals are not willing to pay.In my lifetime I will be sued many times. Every lawsuit raises my malpractice...not by a little but by alot and this is forever.
CEO's have to pay some fairly stiff premiums for lawsuit liability insurance. Why? Because they are often named as defendants in lawsuits brought by injured or disgruntled current or former employees, customers, and shareholders. In addition to lawsuits brought by individuals, a CEO may have to deal with a class action lawsuit brought by many hundreds or many thousands of individuals. They [CEO's] do typically work 80+ hrs a week...
This is during good times. During bad times the work week can be in the range of 100+ hrs a week. Nice work...if you can get it. Every day: hours and hours of meetings, hours and hours of scanning business journals, financial reports, and endless documents to be reviewed and signed. And that is why I am leaving medicine...
I am sincere in my wish that you find an expression for your talents that is both personally and financially rewarding.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

You should consult your CEO on this. I understand they are all quite adept at acquiring and spending ill gotten gains.:rolleyes:Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country!
