SurroundBar 360 - Audio Cuts Out

I have a SurroundBar 360. Hooked up to it through optical connections are my cable box and ps3.
I have problems with the audio cutting out. It occurs when there is a temporary loss in signal which is a problem steming from the source (the cable box). Other receivers i own (or have owned in the past) simply have a temporary static or silence until the full strength audio connection is re-established, but the SurroundBar 360 requires a restart if there is even a small blip in the audio stream.
I also know the PS3 has some minor issues with bitstream optical audio. This causes a small amount of static or cutout while playing some games that were encoded in DTS. These small issues with ps3 audio turn into bigger problems when i must restart my SurroundBar 360 once the audio cuts out.
Another example, which im sure is connected to this... i must first turn on my source material (cable box or ps3) before i turn on my SurroundBar 360. If my SurroundBar 360 is turned on before the source material, it can not pick up the audio signal and stays in silence until i restart.
Obviously dealing with cable TV, the signal strength fluctuates and there is nothing i can do about that. I just wish my SurroundBar could automatically reconnect like other units. Any solutions? Thanks.

i should also clarify that i have tested various optical cables and the problem exists when the box and the SurroundBar 360 are connected via a non-optical digital audio cable as well.
