They sure look similar and are owned by the same corp. Wonder what the differences are between the VM 30 floorstanding speaker and the Mythos series of floorstanding speakers? Interesting to know if they are using the same tweeters, drivers, housings, etc.

I don't have any experience with either one, but they use completely different drivers. The Mythos also have powered subs...the VM's don't. They both use passive radiator technology though.

I've always heard very good things about the Mythos. I'd love to check some out sometime.

Both co's are owned by DEI, but, I think that is pretty much as far as the sharing goes.
Based on the design and driver complement, I'd say the VM30's are somewhere between the Mythos 4 & 5?
As to which one sounds better.... that's subjective?

BrettW22 won a pair at the last 'Polkfest' and has YET to give us a review!

Mythos 1's do not have a powered sub but st's and sts's do. If VM 30 does not have a powered sub, I guess the Mythos 1 would be the closest match. Anyway, maybe Mantis can give us the inside scoop. I know he loves the Mythos series and hopefully knows the VM as well.

Yes, only the ST's and STS's use the powered subs. Still though, they use entirely different drivers.

In terms of appearance 'resemblances'; what do people make of the fact that the new TSI line looks a bit like Def Tech towers (without the rap-around cloth and the bipolar design)?

Obviously the speakers ARE very different...but the physical resemblance almost seems 'intentional' to me?

The Mythos and VM's aren't the only ones that look 'familiar'.:p
Boston Acoustics, Klipsch, and Mirage all have speakers that fit the general description:rolleyes:

I've done the VM line . We sold them often at Tweeter before we closed. I never took to them or was very impressed. I really never sat down and judged them either so I may not be the right person to ask.
The only thing I can say is they didn't get my attention. Usually when I'm installing a system, I set it up, calibrate it and then listen to a few tracks or watch a few to see if my setup/placement and calibration is working for the room I'm in. Then I tweak it until I find it to be the best it can. Usually this is the part where I notice if a speaker sounds good, bad, ok or who cares. I don't ever remember taking a double take on the VM's. I like there build quality. I like there on wall models. The floor standers didn't get me.
The Mythos turned my head and made me take a double take. They keep me wanting more. I want to listen to them. The Mythos 1's, STS and ST's are all fantastic speakers that turned my head. Actually all the Def Tech speakers I have worked with , around all turned my head. They make a good product and for movie lovers they are the real deal. And whats so special about them is you can sit and listen to a good piece of music and get lost in the sound. I really like that.
