    I use rolled up tin foil and brass tacks to transfer the sounds from my CDP directly to my small and dried up brain.

    Could you please elaborate? I understand that deoxit lubricates, but I think it's the actual diameter of the connectors that makes them so tight (?).

    Viper...some companies reduce the diameter of the connects to get better metal to metal contact. Thus reducing the chance of an air gap between the IC and input. Deoxit does have its advantages though.

    lightman, reducing the diameter has to be reasonable (I am sure it's within some spec or whatever), but making is too tight is never good. IMHO, monoprice premium connectors are too tight.

    The tighter the better, so long as the connection can be made. A tighter connection insures a better electrical connection. Additionally, there is less chance of inadvertently dislodging the connection.

    There is a big difference between tight and very tight. If the connector is too tight, you are running a very good chance of breaking a solder connectoin between the connector and the board when you'll be connectnig that 'nice and tight' cable.

    If it's so tight that it's a struggle to put it on or take it off, well that's just a bad design. For the best connection, locking RCA's like the kind MIT uses are the best by far.
