    Dr. Spec

Would appreciate a few minutes of your time. It seems that we have similar speakers on our system, as follows:

    Rt800i
    cs 400i

The only difference are the right surround and rear surround.

I have the fx500i and the fx300i as the rears.

If I would get the LSifx as the side surround, and use the Fx500i as my rear speakers for ambienst sound. How do you think it would sound?

The speakers would not be entirely timbre? Would it make that much of a difference?

    Thanks

YES, but with out hearing IT - it is very hard to say how much.
I think I answered another question of yours. Your setup is GOOD man!!!!!! You have some serious $$$$$$ burning a hole in your pocket. I would suggest some speaker wire/interconnect or equipment upgrades in stead. Really!!!!;)

I have heard both speakers. I have heard the LSi and the RTi line. The Vifa and the tri-lam tweeter have a different sound.

Neither is bad, they are just different.

I would not recommend mixing these two speaker lines in the same surround sound system - they are not a timbre match and panning will not be seamless.

maybe add a pre prow befor upgradeing your suround. i would also think the center/mains would be a better upgrade first than the surounds.
this is my upgrade rought adding 1-2 pieceses a year.

    good 7 channel amp b&k 200.7
    good preamp b&k Reference 50
    new mains/center polk ls9/15 -lsc
    newtv dlp front projector 125in+

i think the 800/400/fx500 are a very nice setup this is my setup olny i have 2 sets of 500 as surounds.

my olny wory with my curent sub upgrade is my sub will have so much more headroom over the rest of my speakers.

How about the CSi40 compared to the CS400? Same story I imagine. Has anyone seen new 400's in stock anywhere?

    Walter:

The tri-lam and the silk dome tweeter are much closer in timbre than the Vifa is to either.

According to Ken S (via Russman) the difference between the two is "subtle" and he says they will work fine together in regard to timbre matching.

I wouldn't hesitate to mix the two tweets and in fact before you came along with your offer on the 1000's, I was planning on doing exactly that by adding the FXi50s as side surrounds.

I do kinda like that the Csi40 is wider and the sound is dispersed through a little more of a broad area. As far as mixing the Csi40 with the Rt line I dont think I would do it, since the center handles so much of the sound anyhow I think it would be a bit more noticable with the center vs. something like surrounds. I really like the Cs400 I have, a great speaker IMO. Finding one period is getting tougher than it was, let alone new. I did see a return a while ago at CC but at the time I thought it was over priced at $315 or something. Now I would have gotten it to use as a rear center, I am kinda bummed :( but check out your local Circuit City, there seems to be a fair amount of trading the older vs. newer Polks in my area, it may be the same for you. Probably the best bet. Mike
