The sound of voices

Ok so I have a onyko sr 706 receiver hooked up to a cs2 center channel, some monitor 50s for the fronts, and some monitor 30s for the surrounds. Heres the problem, when I watch TV, people's voices sound okay (maybe no perfect, but okay). However, when I put in a blu-ray and watch it, the voices sound kind of boxy. There is something that is just not right with the sound for their voices. I turned down the bass on the center channel to try and fix this but it seems it didnt really help. Perhaps its more in the midrange area, I am not sure. So is my problem with the speaker or the setup or what?
-By the way, everything else sounds absolutely great with the other speakers and movie noise.
-thanks

Sorry, what equipment is in your system? This might help identify the problem. What are your interconnects? Give us an idea of what you got.

If it seems like I am hearing only boxy, booming voices, does anyone think this could be a tweeter problem?

seems like a tweeter or source problem to me, have you tried to hook up another speaker you know that works to the center output?

Ok so after trying some different options and testing some stuff, I believe the problem I am having is caused by a large amount of midbass boom. This is probably due to the acoustics of the room and area in which the speaker is placed. Due to the fact that I really do not have the option of moving this to a different angle or location, I think I am going to sell the cs2, and upgrade to a different center channel speaker with that small voice port in the front that is supposed to counteract this problem. I would like anyone's input on my proposal. Good or bad idea for my situation?
--BTW, thanks for all the help this is a great forum!

I have a CSi3 and have some of the same problems, I turned the treble setting on my AVR from +2 to 0 and that helped a little bit, still never solved the problems. I think there could be issues with the crossover on some of these cheaper Polk CCs, I'm not sure though. However I would wager that the problem is contained within your speaker and not any other wire/avr/other components.

I really dont think its caused by the tweeter being too loud or too bright. The sound is more like in the mid region. I dont know though, perhaps i am expecting perfection from a middle to lower end speaker. At any rate its not too bad. Its most likely just the **** acoustics of my room.

Acoustics of a room can dramatically effect sound. However keep in mind you may or may not have and issue with the center channel it self. I would recommend the following.

    1. Make sure any EQ settings on the reciever are OFF or your reciever is in DIRECT or PURE DIRECT mode

    2. What bluray player are you using? the answer to this question can yeild other possibilities.

Have you tried going without the center? Set up the receiver as no center, and the voices will come from the left and right speaker.Give it a whirl, room accoustics can be a **** sometimes.

I was just reading through to see if this were suggested yet. Definately try a Phantom center to rule out an issue with the actual center.
