Thought this would be kinda interesting to see everyones take on this. I will start it off. You may be an audiophile if...............

- while watching a movie you see a pair of speakers and then you rewind to see what brand and model they are.

- you spend more on cables than your car

- you have lead shot in your speaker stands instead of your gun

- you have more money tied up in your system than you do in your bank account

- your buddy tells you to "check out that girl's cans" and you immediatly look at her ears.

- you watch a movie twice, once for the sound and once to actually watch the movie

- your spouse wants to get high definition cable....and you think he/she is talking about MIT

- you go to an estate sale just for the audio gear you may find

- you can tell the difference in sound from a 320kbps mp3 and FLAC

- you think your system sounds better then the real thing

-you listen to music you do not even like just because it was recorded and mixed so well and sounds awesome on your system

Just wondering one can be called an Audiophile if you buy all the gears solely because you want to experiment the practical engineering behind the product and how differs it is from the hypes conveyed by the sales and marketing people and the subjective hearing and praises preached by endless cult like fans?
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

I don't feel abnormal anymore! That last one made me laugh and I don't even consider myself an audiophile. I'm very fond of this hobby - I guess I'm audiofond.

    - if you listen to your music late at night because the power from the grid is cleaner

    - if you pay big $$$ to get the best possible version of a recording (such as the Japan CD pressing of Tiffany's self-titled debut that I just got)

    - if you feel like barfing whenever the name "Bose" or "Monster Cable" is mentioned

    - if you listen to your music in complete darkness

    - if you feel like physically slapping some sense into your friends who buy Bose "lifestyle" systems

Here a cynical roast and sarcarstic toast, tongue pressed firmly in cheek - my own, twisting down and around is easy for an audiosnake :)

You may be an audiophile if...............

    - while watching a movie you see a pair of speakers and then you rewind to see what brand and model they are.

=An audiophile FORCED to watch media tortures everyone with the minutiae.... an audiophile develops molecular level narcissism, scanning all media, overheard conversastion, [even audio related bathroom stall vandalism] print ads of all non audio publications which cross their path mostly in doctors offices awaiting treatment of obesity related illness.

    - you spend more on cables than your car

=audiophiles drive ****-mobiles with high rust to material ratios, having less looks & more miles than Cloris Leachman. This serves the double purpose of public bragging rights ie: these cost more than my car and added liquidity for gear investment.

    - you have lead shot in your speaker stands instead of your gun

= your gun is lead free -however- in the rare audiophile slash firearm owner one contains lead the other lead, kitty litter, or sanitized playground sand.

    - you have more money tied up in your system than you do in your bank account

=SEASONED pros keep thier cash-stash handy for $peedy offers to recently passed audio sidekick spouses.

    - your buddy tells you to "check out that girl's cans" and you immediatly look at her ears.

=you only notice his new gears never her ears.

    - you watch a movie twice, once for the sound and once to actually watch the movie

=ah! Trick question....veeery good...however my gung fu is too good for you! Audiophile not watch movie once or twice.

    - your spouse wants to get high definition cable....and you think he/she is talking about MIT

=you're deaf to spouses, yet exhibit a cat-like disdainful acknowledgement of who's the real boss.
Purrrr purrr I'm thinking about a new pre-amp...purrr purrr my cables aren't right...hisss ffffft that version of DSOTM wasn't what I expected...meew meew I need new speakers.

    - you go to an estate sale just for the audio gear you may find

=you befriended expressly for this purpose. You are the first to ring the door or phone in aid of audiophile-widow.

    - you can tell the difference in sound from a 320kbps mp3 and FLAC

= you know how shades of evil sound without listening.

    - you think your system sounds better then the real thing

=you eschewed the real thing...besides your own sytems sound better than the fake things too.

-you listen to music you do not even like just because it was recorded and mixed so well and sounds awesome on your system

=You own multiple releases of unopened music you don't really like....because it was remastered, 20-24- bit mastered, HDCD'd,
    XRCD'd , Noise-shaped, UV22'd, Bit Mapped, half-speed mastered, released on heavy-180-220 UHQR vinyl, virgin vinyl, 45RPM sets.
Every audiophile at minimum should own 2 cd & 2 lp copies of DSOTM and know what DSOTM means.

...if you won't let your speaker wires lay directly on the carpet due to the possibility of static electricity impacting sound.

...if you cover glass surfaces in the room with a blanket before a listening session

...if you are willing to staple open egg cartons on the wall with the bottom faced out for sound deflection

...if you hire an electrician to run a dedicated circuit to your amp

...if you have a dedicated 2 channel system in one room and a dedicated home theater system in another room
