"Test" speakers

I have 5 monitor60/30/CS2 speakers - the front L and R ones bi-amped.

Things worked fine for > 3 years. In the last month however, I have fried 2 Denon 2106 receivers. They went into circuit protection mode and never came back up.

I checked all the wires, found nothing wrong. Opened the speaker post connection at the back to make sure there was no short, found nothing wrong.

Could something have gone bad inside the speaker that may be causing the receiver circuit to short/heat-up?

Is there anything else I can do to "test" the speakers? Should I have them looked over by a professional?

thanks

I would start by checking the speakers first with an ohm meter to make certian they read correctly. they are all 8 ohm speakers, so if one of them reads differently you will have found your problem child. Beyond that someone else will be better equipped that I to respond...

thanks - I got a multimeter and the woofers on both speakers give me a reading of about 5 ohms. The tweeters don't show anything - but I guess that's expected.

The speakers all sound OK to me when I play each tweeter and woofer-groups individually - guess I'll just have to be more conservative with the volume dial when I get my next receiver.
