One heck a nice price you have there. Can I ask what's next? This should sell fast as the 805 is a very nice piece.

I'm assuming this is a brand new unit. So someone should jump on it. I don't consider myself an expert. But I agree this Onkyo, pound for pound is one of the best units Onkyo has produced in its less than 1000 dollar price range.

The 805 is most definitely superior AUDIO-wise to the 806. It's a monster at over 50 lbs. Essentially an 875 without the Realta Video processing!

Makes a nice Pre/pro at a good price.

    Should I go on.

Great match for Polk Series under LSIs. Buy it, you'll LIKE IT!

    Sumanth,
I bought 2 of these receivers, with the intention of giving one to my Bro as a gift for his new home in India. I figured out that it may be too much of a hassle to carry it to India and changing the pwr supply etc. I'm happy w/ my current setup and parting the one which is not used, still NIB.

As a reference, see how much are these going for at ebay. Compared those used ones, this is a steal. I want to give back to this community and want to make sure these are taken care in their new home..

What are the major differences with the newer 806? Does it still decode all the new HT formats? Also, what would be shipping to ATL, GA, area?

Most of the differences are in sound. The 805 has better DACs (Burr Brown 1792), it has a larger EL transformer and (probably more amp power). This is evidenced in the difference in dynamic high current peaks for the 805 vs. the 806. The 805 has a 60 amp peak, the 806 only 36 amps. That's an important difference as the next model up (875/6) has a 65 amp peak. So essentially, audio wise the 805 is very very similar to the 875/6.

Now the 806 has a couple more HDMI inputs (the 805 has 3 ins one out). The 805 video processing will only do upconversion to 720p, whereas the 806 does, I think, the full 1080. All the upgrades for the 806 have been to VIDEO...which are irrelevant for you if you're processing mostly HDMI equipment--just use the pass through...both receivers have HDMI version 1.3 so no problem there.

Both receivers process all Tru-HD sound formats. Both are THX Ultra certified. The 806 adds Ultra/plus for Loudness plus, a feature that automatically adjusts low frequencies, etc. at lower listening volumes (some people say this helps others are not that impressed with this processing). Finally the 805 weighs a bit over 50 lbs (the same as the 875/6). The 806 has gone on a diet and lost about 14 pounds (that should tell you something about the difference in the audio parts of the amp).

IMHO...video features are largely irrelevant these days as we switch to High Def sources. The 806 is a good receiver. But the 805 is 'the audio" receiver of choice from Onkyo in the less than 1000 dollar category.

As I said above, buy it you'll like it.

I haven't driven anything that's hard do drive....no 4 ohm loads. But I have run a set of M70s/CS2/M30s and a Boston 300 watt 12" RMS sub...and they sounded freaking awesome on the Onkyo! I've also heard Rti-A7s run on this...also great for a mid-fi receiver. But there is a proviso. Different people like different receivers for sound. I also own a Denon AVR 2807, not as powerful as the Onkyo but in the same price range. The Denon has a different sound--a bit less warm, with a bit more edge and detail in the high end on the same speakers. When all is said and done I prefer the Onkyo on recent Polk speakers. But the Denon is a nice piece as well.
