John, if you (and everyone) will just let it rest, it will die out in two days or less. You're just perpetuating it at this point.

You got excited about something, we all understand that. The ISSUE is that you took some things of the posts personally & instead of letting them lay there like the baiting it was, you ran with it. I know you haven't been on the forum long, but you need to recognized there are folks here (& everywhere) who LOVE to mess with someone who makes outrageous statements about a particular person or electronic device...

A refresher--Bob's response to Ben's statement about amp ratings:

    Hi John,

I wish your friend were not so snotty. I'm glad YOU are asking questions!

Each channel can deliver 57 volts rms into an eight ohm load...that's 400 watts. And more, it can deliver that same voltage into four ohms....that's 800 watts. I don't remember exactly what size fuse I put in it, but normally I put a 15 amp slo-blo in my big amps, which means they don't blow right away when extra current goes through them. Now, as the amplifier is loaded more and more with more and more channels running simultaneously, the current will eventually reach a point where the fuse in the amplifier blows or the house circuit breaker trips and your listening room goes dark. That's not good.

Let's say our 15 amp fuse lets through 15 amps, but blows after 30 seconds when 20 amps goes through it. (Our house circuit breakers behave the same way.) That means approximately 20 x 120 = 2,400 watts is the maximum input power for 30 seconds. Since the amp is not 100% efficient, more like 85%, that means the maximum possible total output for 30 seconds is a bit over 2,000 watts. It's a good thing that 30 seconds is an eternity in the life of a musical passage, for that fact means for speech and music the average input current will ALWAYS be less than 20 amps, as evidenced by the fact that my fuses don't blow unless the amp is operated with too many channels running simultaneously with sine waves on a laboratory bench.

If we watch a 'scope hooked to the output of any channel and play it loud (with acid rock or Beethoven's massed choir in his ninth), we will find that the voltage output from time-to-time will be a 57 volt rms equivalent sinusoid.

So.... from a practical perspective with music, the amp behaves as if it were seven individual amps, each 400 watts @ 8 ohms, and each 800 watts @ 4 ohms.

Bob's my name, and big amps are my game.

    Hope this helps,
    Bob Carver

So he basically said the amp is rated for what it says, but it won't do ALL channels at once, because it's impossible. I've spoken at length Bob (he prefers that to "Mr. Carver" and tells everyone who calls him so) and while he is definitely a engineering-geek, he is NOT a numbers guy by any stretch of the imagination. When anyone told him he was a genius, he always said he just stood on the shoulders of geniuses before him and put their ideas together to form his own. His favorite response to a question about how something might sound was "I don't know; let's TRY it!" (even if he knew or believed he knew the answer). He wanted us to hear & decide with our own ears.

He is ALL ABOUT listening & enjoying the music; ask anyone at CarverFest last September. I personally believe the Sunfire marketing department was more responsible for the claim than anyone.

    Ben's FIRST response was:

    ben62670 wrote: »
I have no beef with the sheer genius of Bob's amps. I know he has produced some great amps, but the ratings game played by many manufacturers is that just a game. A watt is not just a watt. I would prefer a continuous rating be applied to a continuous rating, and not just a spurt rating at clipping. I stand by my comments. Hats off to BC for some great amps, but I take watts with a grain of salt.
    Cheers
    Ben

It was an opinion. Nothing more. I'm constantly amazed at just how UPSET folks on ALL forums get over stuff that doesn't matter in the long run. I try to ask myself "will anyone care in 2 years?" before I get upset about ANYTHING.

THAT SAID....can we PLEASE move on with more of the interesting discussion and WAY LESS bitching, fighting, name-calling, and snide comments???

OK, I have nothing to do with this thread, nor do I care about whining n00bs that don't get the hint. But whomever the punk is dropping the BS tags, why don't you man up and say something to me directly? Or are you going to remain the punk that you are and play keyboard commando?

Although I'm a keyboard commander (Couch Captain, International Rating),
I'm not responsible for the 'Jstas is a tea bagger' tag.

Thanks for clearing that up, though.

I'm thinking that that clarification may come as a disappointment to some folks here. ;)

For your information, John does not whine. He simply states his opinion in a high pitched nasal drawl...

as far as the tea bag comment, I like tea... AAMOF, Lady Grey is one of my more "special" blends, but hey YMMV

We have a few cowards in the forum. That's new. Instead of hiding behind the tags, be a man.

We prefer Luzianne tea, specially blended for ice tea !

Throw 5 family-sized bags into a 2 gallon sun-tea glass jar, a little Splenda for sweetness (not too much !), and call it macaroni.

    Legitimate question.

One way (there is no "Only" way) is to be around long enough to recognize when someone posts something tongue-in-cheek and not go hyper.

For example: "Bob Carver is a rube".

That's pretty much the case. I haven't been on here that long and here and there there has been a bump or two...but hey, I'm older than a lot of you. Can I afford to be 'thin' skinned and survive.

I suggest for (us) newbs; that you read Doro's posts 'carefully' and study them because they will teach you to stop taking all this so personally, seriously and even rationally. He has a particularly rye and distant sense of humor that can be 'easily' misread but that can also be enjoyed.

That's your assignment. No go to the search engine and complete it.

sad how if some had actaully read these threads they would see the crap did NOT start with me

Doesn't matter your (and others too) incessant need to comment on every little detail in every thread is mind numbingly annoying. I thought you started a thread saying you were sorry for rubbing people the wrong way and were going to tone it down a bit. I guess I read something into your plea that wasn't there.
